No Waste Tastes Great / It’s No Joke!

March 15, 2013 by SimplyBeingMum

It’s Friday Guys – time for No Waste Tastes Great

Simply Being Mum’s Friday Fridge

Today might be the 25th anniversary of Red Nose Day in the UK, but this Friday Fridge is no joke.

I’ve said before that my Friday Fridge is a direct reflection of the state of my life and the week I’ve had. I won’t bore you with the gory details.

No further explanation required, I presume? A picture is worth a thousand words.

Rather than take the photo after a major clean up, I thought I’d show what can happen when I haven’t got my eye on the prize.

Actually, it isn’t that bad on the food-waste-front. A quick inventory and I reckon the only totally unsalvageable item is a head of broccoli.

I never did get round to making that soup I planned last Friday.

Onwards and upwards eh?

**I’d planned on posting my salt dough recipe on Wednesday in response to my post To Blog Or Not To Blog. But, in true ‘rubbish-week-everything-going-wrong-style’ my router gave up the ghost that very same day. It’ll be posted over the weekend instead!**

Sorry for the week you must have had. If your fridge is any indication, it must have been a frustrating one. Here’s hoping for blue skies ahead for you.

Oh no, Jo … I can take a guess, or three, at why your fridge didn’t get eaten up. All the guesses make me feel very, very bad for you 🙁

    Hope things are better now.

It’s okay Jo, it’s not horrific – nobody died or anything. The perfect description was made above…frustrating. It’s how you deal with things that makes the difference. Never give up 😉

Hey – there’s food in dat dere fridge. I thought that wasn’t allowed or something. ;-P Actually my first thought would be that you took a photo the day after you went shopping rather than the day before.

I can see how it’d be frustration for you. Does it help that this is what most people’s fridges look like, even those who don’t waste a lot?

Off to make Even Better spaghetti sauce to avoid some waste chez WB.

Oh my…I wouldn’t be happy if my fridge looked like that even after shopping! 😉 I wonder if it would be possible to guess someone’s state of mind by looking in their fridge?…Hmmm I wonder. Bet yours is organised!
Okay you got me – what’s ‘even better’?

The usual recipe is saute onions and garlic and bay leaf, add canned tomatoes and their juice, simmer till about the right consistency, flavor with wine vinegar, basil, oregano, thyme, and salt till you like it. I supplemented my usual recipe with some almost-spoiled fresh tomatoes, almost-sticky mushrooms, and spinach from the overly-large bag; then pureed the whole shebang.

Jo, thank you for your honesty and courage to share this post. You are an extremely goal oriented person achieving many great results. I admire this about you. No matter the state of your fridge this week, you are an example of No Waste Tastes Great. I am looking forward to your salt dough recipe, I want to make it with my neighborhood kids. No rush though, in all good time.
