Hey Guys it’s Friday. It’s #FoodWasteFriday.
As always on a Friday I follow my No Waste Tastes Great routine.
Now this used to involve photographing my fridge, but the strange lady (yes that’s me) is now videoing her fridge and uploading to YouTube.
After all how many funny videos of cats doing cute stuff can you watch? Fridge is the new cat.
Simply Being Mum’s Friday Fridge
Please note that the audio goes muffled on this video and I cannot improve it. Arrgghh! I also could not change it to HD. I filmed it on my iPad and not my phone. Will go back to phone I think.
As I mention in the video I have a lot of waste this week, and every item was brought back from our Cornish holiday last week.
Did I mention we’d been to Cornwall? If you follow me on Instagram you probably know this #holidayspam
Waste = Salad, 2 Sausages, 2 Scones, Cucumber. Quite shocking really.
On a more positive note I’m making a #FoodWasteFriday save.
Leek and potato slow cooked soup is on the menu. So super simple and tasty. It’ll be frozen and used for the Hubby’s packed lunches.
Question: Why each week do I out myself on the food waste front?
Answer: Accountability – we manage what we measure. I want to reduce food waste at Chez Wright, and I know that if I have to film my fridge each Friday I may be a little more mindful throughout the week.
It’s just human nature. Weight watchers made an international business out of accountability – and support.
Because that’s the other reason, if we are all in this together we can all help one another to reduce the amount of food we waste each week.
If you participate then please do use the hashtag #FoodWasteFriday out and about on social media so we can all find one another. And if you have enough space throw in a #nowastetastesgreat for good measure. let’s spread the word.

Is it weird that I watched your video and imagined Miranda Hart doing the narration? Yes, I guess it is ๐
Those leeks look delicious, I love soup made with leeks. They’re my favorite vegetable. I’ve been trying to grow my own since last Fall and they’re barely thicker than my thumb, but I’m still not pulling them yet.
Have you ever tried making refrigerator pickles with cucumbers that are going a little soft? I would imagine those English cucumbers who work great. I use the regular cucumbers that we get here (more seeds), we love them. I made 2 jars of them this week with a very large cuke that was doing soft.
I posted my Food Waste/Food Saves this morning too: http://imperfectlyfrugally.blogspot.com/2015/06/food-waste-friday-6515.html
My French vacation trip with the kids is looming so I’ve been trying to eat/freeze a lot of my fridge’s contents since my husband will probably survive on canned foods while I’m gone. We had a little bit of waste and most of it, sadly, could have been avoided had I been more alert. Oh well.
So I won’t be posting Food Waste posts for a few weeks… but I’ll probably read your posts on my phone. Keep up the good work!

Hey Nathalie! Not sure whether you mean I sound like Miranda Hart or whether you just imagined her there ๐
No idea what a refrigerator pickle is – please share.
France is one of my very favourite countries! Have fun! Are you on Instagram? I’d follow your vacation if you were ๐

Just realised I typed vacation without even thinking about it instead of holiday!

Hahaha ๐ You’re becoming americanized because of your American commenters. That’s OK, I started talking about “vegs” instead of “vegetables” because of the British blogs that I follow ๐
I meant, I totally pictured Miranda Hart making the commentary about your fridge. At some point, the way you said something (I can’t remember what, exactly) sounded just like an intonation she uses in her Miranda show, well at least to me. I chuckled. My husband and I love her show.
How refreshing to hear a Brit singing the praise of my birth country! We’ve had centuries of rivalry so usually it’s quite the contrary, hahaha. My former MIL was from Liverpool so we always fake-fought about which country was the best ๐
No, I’m not on Instagram. Blogging is enough for little antisocial me ๐ I’m planning on taking my laptop along though and right now planning on doing *some* blogging if I happen to do something frugal over there, which isn’t a given. If so, I’ll post photos.
Here is the post I wrote about making refrigerator pickles. I use jalapeรฑos since I grow them and Greg doesn’t do well with onions, but the original recipe uses diced onion instead of the Jalapeรฑos. I think you can probably add whatever you want. They’re delicious and a good way to use up cucumbers. http://imperfectlyfrugally.blogspot.com/2014/09/zesty-refrigerator-pickles.html I haven’t bought pickles ever since I’ve started making those (although I’m looking forward to eating cornichons when I’m in France. Real cornichons are hard to find over here).

I really need to start writing my food waste down! I know there was some during the week, but I’ve been so busy this week that I’ve forgotten what it was! I know there was a little yogurt left in the big tub before I disposed of it (it had been open for about 9 days), there was a hummus container that Hamish forgot about (not my food waste! Yes!), a whole head of lettuce that I bought and then when I went to use it realised that I had completely off lettuce (Being sick tends to do that to me, as does antibiotics!) and I noticed this morning that there is a lemon in the fruit bowl that has gone off. I might have to start keeping them in the fridge again. We have had an unseasonable warm (and rainy!) week. This week I intend to do better!
