I’ve started watching 10000BC on Channel 5.
Always intrigued by these type of social experiments (I was gripped by Living In The Past in the 70’s) it’s fascinating to see specifically what a decent meal means to us humans.
Until something is taken away, it’s sometimes hard to fully appreciate how much we truly would miss something were it not available.
It’s good to go without sometimes. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
I’m missing cooking. In particular, I’m missing cooking my favourite recipes.
If absolutely desperate to do so I could probably rustle them up. It’d take longer, and it would be difficult but I probably could. Or I could just wait another 8 days, and then I will have 2 hands to do the job.
As a compromise, and because some of you may not have seen some of my recipes I decided to share my top 3 today.
Probably my favourite slow cooked recipe is lasagne.
Most people I mention slow cooked lasagne to are surprised it can be cooked in a crockpot. But not only can it be cooked this way, it’s also my favourite way of cooking it. It really is good.
Another recipe I’m missing is this A-Mazing spicy soup.
A firm favourite here, and such a winter warmer. Perfect for a February evening.
Moving onto a sweet treat, this cupcake I discovered by accident.
My jam sunk in the recipe and voila Sticky Bottom Raspberry Cupcakes. A great finale!

The soup looks wonderful and I happen to have all the ingredients on hand. Hmmmmm….. Hope you’re feeling a little better each day, Jo.

My favourite homemade meal is pizza. After years of searching and tweaking, I’ve stuck with the same crust recipe for the last fifteen years. I keep looking for the holy grail of sauce, though. But it’s the thing I crave every so often. My husband’s favourite is the same as yours, lasagna, except done with our recipe which is not slow-cooked. Oh, you will enjoy your home-cooking SO MUCH when you get back in the kitchen, Jo! Eight days to go – that must seem like a long time, but it will pass. Just keep looking after yourself!

I need to try those cupcakes! I’ve been in a big cupcake mood lately.
My favorite recipe is chicken and sausage gumbo. I make a big pot every year for Mardi Gras which is coming up next Tuesday. It’s a great comfort food for me and I love the process of making the roux too.

We loooove “homemade” pizza. We buy a premade gluten free crust (Against the Grain brand is amazingly delicious), and top it with olive oil, Italian herbs, cheese, pepperoni and lots of whatever veggies we have. Sometimes even some cooked bacon!! Yum!
I also love Cincinnati style chili. Definitely a go-to recipe, whether I use the slow cooker or the stovetop. I much prefer it to Texas style chili. Served over spaghetti, topped with diced onions and shredded cheddar… So good!

By the way… I have some lasagna noodles in the cupboard I keep forgetting to use; thanks for reminding me! Maybe I’ll use the slow cooker method this time. 🙂
