I’m struggling to get into any kind of routine this year. Never mind a No Waste Tastes Great routine.
Last Friday I was being discharged from hospital following surgery, my Friday fridge the week before that was utter chaos, and going back to 9 January I was at my father’s funeral.
I’d like to say my Friday routine is improving. I’ve worked so hard since October 2010 to reduce food waste. However this week I can’t even physically see my routine through as I am home alone on crutches.
Obviously I could struggle through, but I’m not going to. I’ll wait till tomorrow where the Hubby will be on hand to do the labour while I direct from the kitchen table.
You could say I’ve fallen off the Food Waste Friday wagon.
“You have to find something that anchors you, something that keeps you looking forward” Unknown
Even the Friday’s when I cannot follow my routine, I do not despair and I don’t give up. There’s a Friday every week, an opportunity to get back on track. Which I hope to do once back comfortably back on two feet.
That doesn’t mean I’ve thrown in the towel these 4 weeks that I’m immobile. I’ll do what I can to keep on track, but will accept that it may not be exactly how I hoped it would be.
Getting back to it while slightly off course, is much easier than should I have completely turned round and started heading in the opposite direction.
And talking off direction, I’m popping across now to Kristen’s to link up. Fancy joining me?

Oh dear, Jo–I’m so sorry you’re having a sad start to the new year. But I admire your attitude and love the sentiment “there’s a Friday every week, an opportunity to get back on track.” I think that should be on a poster! Wishing you well.
Warmly,
Joy

I’m so sorry your year has started off so hard. {{{HUGS}}} I agree, there is a friday every week, so don’t pressure yourself, just be you and take care.

Thanks Lori – onwards and upwards next Friday!

No worries! You’ll get back into the routine soon. I’m probably going to skip a few weeks when the new baby gets here too. Keep up the amazing attitude!

Looking forward to hearing all about your new arrival!

Speaking for myself, so much of the food waste battle is in my head anyway – remembering that I need to be vigilant, planning meals when buying groceries, thinking of how to use whatever is left in the fridge before the next grocery run. The ability to hunker down in front of the fridge to actually see what is in there is important, too, but attitude and contemplation is a huge part of it. Sounds like you’re still well in control of those! I hope you are healing well, and I know it seems like it’s taking forever, but you will be back to yourself in due time.

Thanks Jo!

I’m sorry you are having a difficult start to the year. I hope it will make you feel better to know that your blog has inspired me to be much more careful about food waste. I am working on my own food waste Friday at home. It is an important message that needs to be shared 🙂
