**Please note I have decided to edit today’s open house blog post. I didn’t think carefully enough about it – it’s my error. Thank you for the 2 previous comments (it’s appreciated you popped by! thank you! I read them and they contained great advice – if you’d like to comment again please do) but I’ve started from scratch. Thank you for understanding**
It’s Thursday! Time to open up the blog for our virtual meet up.
Today I’d like to talk about ‘getting Christmassy’.
Maybe I am taking Christmas off. But the reason for backing off on obligations, and all the aspects of this season that feel like a the chore, was so I could focus on what is important. On my family.
Time to step it up a gear. The decorations are going up this weekend, along with the tree. We have a festive fundraiser to attend on Saturday and I’ve booked a Santa safari. This is where we’re going this year and I cannot wait to meet the Big Guy! I am a Santa fan!
I’d had decided to do a schedule for December jam packed with activities (although that was put on the back burner last week, for reasons which I’ll explain in a blog post next week – life doesn’t always go to plan). But we are now back on track, and we’ll be sleigh bells, and whistles from this point forward!
My Children are growing so fast and I want to ensure every Christmas is magical!
What are you doing this year to make your family Christmas magical?
p.s don’t forget there’s a Christmas pudding giveaway running! Enter here!

I find that Christmas is losing its ‘specialness’ as it becomes more and more comercialised, and shops start putting up their decorations and playing season songs earlier and earlier.

I agree Kate. Retail has most definitely affected the specialness of the holiday. No doubt to me.

This is my son’s second Christmas which means it is totally different for us now. Last year he was here, but he was so little, it didn’t matter as much. This year he notices the lights and Santa. I’m loving it! As long as he is entertained, I’ll feel like Christmas is special. Every little thing is exciting to him right now and it makes everything so much better.

It truly is magical with small children. Enjoy every moment. I’m in the process of keeping the magic alive as my children grow.

Oh dear, Jo, you’ve made me realize I don’t do much of anything to make things magical now that our kids are grown up and away; instead, I mentally focus on how I’m going to get through the work involved with the cleaning, the meals, the gift buying … I feel very Grinchy saying that! Thank you SO MUCH for helping me make an attitude adjustment. I think that doing the work with a sparkle in my eye will be the best gift I can give my family, and it will restore my own enjoyment in the season too.

Jo we should all have a little magic in our lives whether 6 or 60. I have no idea where you fall between those two numbers but I’m much closer to 60 than 6! have a fab Christmas x

As the parent of a 9 year old, I could actually relate to your original post. It was honest and actually showed your feelings and struggles, very similar to ones other parents have…I didn’t see the original comments that made you change your mind, but you had a very good point.
Sure, we can’t stop our kids growing up, Christmas should still feel special and good on you for responding and creating some new magic and excitement. Sure it won’t always be *magical* (I know one of mine is onto me already, but is fervently pretending she doesn’t know!), but magic comes in many guises. Sorry for commenting on both posts at once, but I identified much more with your original 🙂 (Remember: Always be you…unless you can be Batman…then always be Batman!) xx

Thanks Clare – as I cannot control who reads my posts (and comments) I decided to change tack on the conversation. After all this house believes! 🙂
