It’s Friday Guys – time for No Waste Tastes Great
Simply Being Mum’s Friday Fridge
What’s behind the closed-door?
My groceries for the week. Packed to the rafters.
Why did I shop a day early this week? Deviating from my usual Friday routine.
Because of these:
It may sound like a contradiction but sometimes I buy more food in order to reduce waste. Having nothing suitable to accompany the potatoes I added a few unplanned Leeks to my grocery shop.
(Leeks are so hard to photograph…)
Knowing that I had an hour to spare this Thursday (unlike last week) I popped to Aldi.
(For those thinking of trying Aldi out, but unsure what to expect – check out the definitive Aldi shopping list from Mumsnet)
There’s nothing quite like soup to make a save. Particularly a simple slow cooked soup.
It’ll be a potato and leek save today. Resulting in no waste and a handful of packed lunches for next week.
((Want to make your own super simple potato and leek soup? Seriously it is this easy. One potato to one leek. Peel or wash and dice – pop in a crock pot/slow cooker. Add about 1 pint of stock per potato/leek combination depending on how thick you like your soup. Season with black pepper. Slow cook until the leek and potatoes are soft (approx 4 hours on high or 6-8 on low). Blend and serve))
How’s your Fridge looking this Friday? Please share?

Good save. I was also thinking about making soup to use up some potatoes. However, it’s been hot today, so I just couldn’t get motivated. Maybe tomorrow.

I see nothing at all odd about buying something in order to use up something else.
