It’s Friday Guys – time for No Waste Tastes Great
Click here to find out more about my Friday Routine
Let’s get straight to it… I’ve lot’s to share today…
Simply Being Mum’s Friday Fridge
Top Shelf – Spreads and Eggs (some of this was purchased yesterday as I have a birthday cake to make! and will get used up today)
Top Middle Shelf – Leftovers from last night’s dinner. Jelly and some Chickpea and Coconut Curry (to be eaten lunch time today)
Bottom Middle Shelf – Grapes and pepper (also being eaten today as part of lunch, adding pepper to curry when reheated and the grapes will be eaten after). The cauliflower should have been used up on Tuesday. The plan was to make cauliflower cheese to go with the minced beef pie. I didn’t as we had plenty of veggies already.
Bottom Shelf – Jar of homegrown beetroot from my Mom (being used up gradually – there’s a lot of it!)
Drawer at bottom – various condiments all in date
Door Shelf – Milk (to be used up today) and can you spot the deliberate mistake? This made me laugh so I left it there for the photo. It appears I put the coffee in there this morning after my wake up cup! I’m not a morning person!
No Waste Tastes Great – The Plan
I have a large potato to hand also, so have decided to try a cauliflower cheese soup. To say I’m not convinced is an understatement but the cauli’s gotta go! Inspiration struck flicking through a food magazine last night (which I don’t buy by the way – my Big Sis passes on – she has a subscription). There was an advert for a new brand of cheese and they’d photographed a cauliflower cheese soup – and it looked lovely – I’m still not convinced however! Reckon it’s gonna be a ‘love it or hate it’ recipe – I’ll keep you updated as I am having it for dinner (and freezing the remainder)! The kids are having home-made pizza and popcorn and the Hubby a takeaway – after all it’s Date Night at Chez Wright and I’m not sure he’s gonna be a Cauli soup fan!
(Update 6pm – check out Facebook for the verdict and photo of the soup!)
Extended No Waste Tastes Great
Okay so that should have been the end of the post… but I’ve been itching to photograph my food stocks so am extending it today.
I had a ‘Use It Up Week’ and have been updating how it’s progressed on Facebook. It seemed a good time to share what I keep in my cupboards.
Main Storecupboard
Tea/Coffee/Biscuit/Cracker and Treat Cupboard
Spice Shelf – Prepare yourself! (quick count – approx 35 units!)
Cake and Bread Baking Supplies Cupboard (Plus Fruit Bowl)
Freezer contents
Few words today as a picture speaks a thousand words!
How’s your Fridge looking this Friday? Smart and sparkly? How about the cupboards – can you see the contents or is it a mish mash of all sorts? Do you know what’s lurking inside, or could it do with a bit of a declutter? Feel free to tell your pantry secrets here! Or if there are any questions about my cupboards I’m happy to bare all!
Don’t forget about Simply Being Mum on Facebook – I update with snippets most days – stuff that I wouldn’t blog about – so if social media’s your thing then give me a like!
As always thanks to The Frugal Girl for the original and ongoing inspiration for No Waste tastes Great

Potato & cauliflower soup songs great to me! Yum! My fridge could really use a cleaning out, but will have to wait till next week, I have a crazy busy few days ahead of me! Your pantry looks great too! Mines not as bad as my fridge, but could probably use some organization! lol!

Hi Carla – The soup turned out just fine – you need to like cheese to eat it, but as I do it was good! I’ve posted a photo of it on Facebook. Hope the next few days aren’t too crazy!!

Thanks for all the pics! I always keep coffee in the fridge because it lasts longer. DH only has the occasional cup and my only use of it is for coffee and walnut cake. So it goes down very slowly.
I actually have a very similar pantry setup, although my cupboards aren’t as big being in a London flat. I need to do an inventory ready for winter, use up the last of the more summery things like jelly before it turns really cold. It’s actually lovely and sunny in London at the moment, so might use up quite a bit if it holds over the weekend.
Fridge wise, I have eggs, new potatoes and chorizo to use up. That’s just crying out to be a spanish omelette! I don’t think DH will like it, but I might make it anyway and freeze in portions for me. There’s some floury potatoes and carrots in there as well, but planning to make a cottage pie on Sunday with mince from the freezer. I think that just leaves some leftover banana cake, but sure that’ll find a home in some happy tummies. 😉

Hi Lauren – you really are organised I love it! And also a mine of info – there was me thinking coffee in the fridge was an odd thing to do and it turns out not to be! I hadn’t really thought about freezing omelette either, but why not? I know it can be purchased frozen…. Hope the cottage pie went down well 🙂

My cupboards are quite well organised, and I make sure things get used up before buying new. We get through a lot of cereal – I have 3 children who each have at least 3 bowls each, every morning, so we normally have at least 10 boxes or so! I now keep all fruit in the fridge, even bananas (I have a special banana bag to keep them in, stops them going black and keeps them fresh). Food virtually never gets thrown out in this household!

Hey Rebecca that all sounds very unwasteful! Fantastic! We get through a lot of cereal also (not 10 boxes – boy that’s a lot!) – I’ve started buying cheaper brands and no-one seems to be complaining (yet anyway) 🙂

Love the piccies!!! The coffee in the fridge reminds me of when i had baby brain, once i put the soap powder in the fridge and milk under the sink, funny now but i remember crying at the time beause i thought i had gone mad!! LOL
I NEVER buy brand cereal, always generic, the sunny bisk have gone down a treat, my elder boys say they are nicer as they are ‘more tightly packed’ i think i know what they mean….

I’ve had a few years of baby brain! That coupled with not being a morning person is lethal! Glad the sunny bisk has gone down well – in fact I dreamt about your comment last night – I may be losing the plot 🙂 I dreamt I was looking into a bowl of Sunny Bisk and it was a bit like compressed bird seed and wheat (obviously completely strange concoction as it was a dream) – and I was wondering how ‘tightly packed’ it was… bizarre!

Great ideas. I’m so much better at this than I used to be, but certainly will look here for more tips to make it easier on myself!
Aloha Wags!

Hi JT – Still inspired by your blog (and the beautiful scenery) – although I don’t have any dogs myself now (I had many as a child – 3 at a time usually) there’s some great info on there generally! I will be linking to your pumpkin info – I love food facts! Back in training this week for my 10 miler I’ll drop you a note ref pace 🙂 Aloha back!

The jar of marmite in your cupboard brings back memories. It is definately an acquired taste. 🙂
simplybeingmum says
🙂 – I started buying it when a vegetarian friend of mine mentioned she had it instead of butter on her beans on toast – it is fantastic! Healthy option also! It’s also good on toast and then pickle on top – but then I know I have slightly strange tastes!
simplybeingmum says
Oh My I can’t believe it!
