Simple Top Tip Tuesday – Ice and a Slice

January 11, 2011 by SimplyBeingMum

For those who like to keep things simple but still like a little ‘luxury’ 🙂 why not combine ‘Ice and a Slice’?

Simply slice a lemon or lime and freeze, then when the occasion arises add to your drink, be that a soft drink or your favourite tipple!

This is a great way to reduce potential food waste by using up any citrus fruits that could potentially be heading toward the compost heap (or recycling bin…)

Eliminate ice cubes – make that fruit multi-task!!

Sliced lemon and lime is also an easy way to add a bit of tangy taste to fish when cooking without the need to add oils or dressings.  Just remove the fruit from the freezer whilst prepping dish, it will thaw quite quickly, then top the fish with a slice (or two) add a few herbs and garlic, wrap in foil and pop in the oven for 20-30 minutes.

So very simple

Very nice post. I don’t often use lemon or lime in my drinks but I will definitely start.

Brilliant idea. I like to have lemons around in case I need them for baking or just fancy a hot lemon drink but I sometimes end up with hard ones left in the fridge – I hate that waste. Will slice and freeze from now on.

After many thrown away I started freezing, I do it with limes also which I use on Tuna and in Gina and Tonic. Even if you freeze you can thaw and use for hot drinks etc… they really are the handiest ice-cubes ever! Jo
