Keeping The Kids Busy In The Kitchen

July 31, 2015 by SimplyBeingMum

Hey Guys it’s Food Waste Friday.

#FoodWasteFriday

It’s not my week to host, it’s Kristen’s. Food Waste Friday is officially over at The Frugal Girl’s today, but please do join in here also.

As always on a Friday I follow my No Waste Tastes Great routine – whether hosting or not.

Simply Being Mum’s Friday Fridge

Fridge 31 Jul

Kind of a busy fridge this Friday. Returning home from holiday just Wednesday evening the fridge (and freezer – see last weeks post) were bare – I needed to grab some groceries.

Fortunately the lovely people from Aldi UK had sent me some vouchers before we went away to help rustle up some #AldiSummer recipes over the holidays. Get the Kids in the kitchen I say!

It gave me an idea.

While in Devon we visited Buckfast Abbey.

Abbey

The food available was second to none. Truly. Very impressive.

A firm favourite of the Kids was the potato, cheese, bacon and onion pie.

(I didn’t photograph it – oops)

We decided there and then that we would make our own version of Buckfast Abbey Pie once home.

And as I have no potential waste to use up this Friday, and some spare time as dance classes aren’t on, today is the day! The recipe will be up on the blog Sunday.

The only item that looked a little worse for wear this morning was an avocado in the fruit bowl.

Avocado

But never judge an avocado by it’s skin.

Into a smoothie it went!

Please do not forget to head on over to The Frugal Girl to link up also!

Great planning to go away and come back to no waste. I’ve never put avocado in a smoothie, will have to give it a try. I find almost too ripe but not quite avocado freezes well in a ziplock bag with a squeeze of lemon or lime. Only one mouldy mandarin had to go to waste at our place this week.

That’s such a great way to remember your holiday! Bet the kids will have a blast 🙂

Quite a bit of food waste to report: half a head of lettuce, half a block of tofu, a mostly full jar of lemon jam (it’s been sitting there since December…) and a dribble of cream that didn’t get used. Oops!

My fridge is the same size as yours but its quite shocking how much I manage to shove in it (unfortunately). http://fullofdailydelights.blogspot.com/20/15/07/clean-fridge-friday.html
I hope this works as I am new to this.
