It’s Friday Guys – Food Waste Friday.
#FoodWasteFriday
And it’s my week to host! Yay!
Let’s get on with the show…
Simply Being Mum’s Friday Fridge
This Friday fridge photo has been taken before my No Waste Tastes Great routine.
I’m on a go-slow today (actually I decided to do ‘work’ work before blogging today).
Hence there I was at 9am sitting on a cold tiled kitchen floor, drinking green tea from my Poldark mug – videoing my fridge. It doesn’t get any more Rock n Roll than that does it?

(see, I did listen – I’m no longer embedding video :))
In fact I’m so behind schedule today that I haven’t even done an inventory of my fridge. The plan is to look back at the photo above and talk through it.
Here goes:
Top Shelf: Jam, greek yoghurts, mozzarella, pasta sauce, grapes and nail soup
Top Middle Shelf: Strawberries, salad, salmon, bacon, cheese
Bottom Middle Shelf: Carrots, soya milk, olive oil spread, green pepper and cherry tomatoes
Bottom Shelf: Marmalade, beans, tikka paste, milk and water
Door: Condiments and milk
Can you tell I’m back to following a more Paleo based meal plan at the moment?
Everything in the fridge is fine. Nothing about to spoil. But to ensure it remains that way we’ll be having a lot of salad over the next couple of days. That’ll be salmon salad, and bacon salad.
The carrots will be slow cooked into a great nail soup. I love nail soup. Anything goes. I still have one portion sitting on the top self from some parsnips, carrots and leeks I had hanging around last week. After cooking it was a little bland, one spoon of Patak’s tikka paste and problem solved. Once open it lasts 6 weeks refrigerated, so I’ll be adding more to my next batch, and the it’s likely there’ll be a slow cooked curry on next weeks meal-plan also.
I did lose some non-refrigerated food this week. About 6 slices of bread, it went mouldy. We are having unusually warm weather in the UK. The plastic wrapping and the heat weren’t compatible and mould set in. Lesson learnt, I’m keeping bread frozen currently until the British normal service resumes!
How’s your fridge looking this Friday? Did you photograph it? Did you blog about it? Or are you simply participating in your own way?
However you do it please link up below! Drop it in the comments box. Or simply comment if you have no link to share.
As always a huge thank you to Kristen The Frugal Girl the founder and original inspiration behind Food Waste Friday.

This is the fullest I can remember seeing your fridge! I love the Patak’s curry paste. I have tried their madras (v. good) and will have to try the tikka.

We did pretty well this week as far as waste goes. I had to cut the end of some cheese that had molded, but otherwise we didn’t lose anything else. However, like you, I made a big pot of soup out of garden veggies to make sure they didn’t go bad.

I had a great week this week until a mini-disaster with a jar of capsicums. I managed to catch a stale bread roll in time to stash it in the freezer for my next batch of breadcrumbs. Used up some potatoes and celery in a big pot of veggie curry. I’ve been pondering the merits of online grocery shopping as a way to reduce waste this week: http://moretimethanmoney.co.nz/2015/07/10/shopping-online-to-spend-less/

Hi Amy – I used to online shop – but Aldi do not offer that service currently so have stopped. It most definitely does have it’s advantages.

I need to check out your nail soup recipe! I’ve got some carrots that won’t be around much longer either. Here is how we did: http://eatdrinkandsavemoney.com/2015/07/10/ice-cream-cake-toddler-leftovers-and-a-giveaway-food-waste-friday/

My week wasn’t to good. Had a lot stuff going on which made me loose two packs of lettuce and a whole loaf of bread just like your it became moldy in no time. Now bread stays in the fridge for the summer. Also lost a pear.

I’m not used to having weather spoil food!

I tossed some things out this week that most people wouldn’t throw away. That makes me feel bad, but at least I had the courage to finally declutter them.

I lost a tiny bit of lettuce and half a cucumber. Not too bad for me this week! With all this moving busyness I had forgotten about the cucumber, buried at the bottom of the veggie bin. Lesson learned 😉
