Hi Guys it’s Food Waste Friday.
As I do every Friday I follow my No Waste Tastes Great routine.
You can see that routine here.
Simply Being Mum’s Friday Fridge Photo
Top Shelf – Preserves, olive oil spread and Cheese
Top Middle Shelf – 2 beers
Bottom Middle Shelf – Green pepper, onion and tomatoes
Bottom shelf – Greek yoghurt, milk and mayo
Door – Milk and juice
MyΒ meal plan is already done (click here to see how I meal plan);
It’s pretty straightforward this week. The only items in my fridge that potentially could go to waste are the salad items. Saturday night is usually pizza and salad night – so the salad will be used up tomorrow. Apart from that I think it’s looking fine and dandy.
However I do have some mid-week waste to declare.
About a third of a tub of coleslaw and half a packet of rice.
Not a clean sheet this week, but not a disaster.
Love Food Hate Waste report that an average UK family throw away Β£60 of wasted food each month.
I estimate my waste this week is around Β£1. As I said, not perfect, but not a disaster.
Do you know approx. how much in monetary terms you are throwing away each week?
(while we are talking money, did you see this post? Are you up for the challenge?)
Please drop your comments in below and please, please, please add the link to your Food Waste Friday post!
With thanks, as always to Kristen, The Frugal Girl, the founder and original inspiration behind Food Waste Friday.

Very timely, I was just reading about how most people think they waste less than average. Myself included. I am really interested to see how my waste compares, so I am starting a tally.
This week I wasted a kiwifruit, a mandarin, a lime and 1/4 bottle of passata.

I wasted a baby zucchini,a mango and a cup of rice. I never consider to think about how much money that is per week so that might help even more to cut down. I assume it was about $1.50.

Sometimes to ‘measure’ something helps keep the mind focused. I don’t think it really matters how we measure – just that we’re keeping track I guess π

I have just started meal planning (in the last month) and I find already that I am not only saving money but my food waste has really been cut down. This is still a work in progress but I will keep on working at this. Thanks for all your helpful hints. You have been an inspiration.

Yay way to go! Meal planning absolutely makes a difference to not just reduction of waste but in saving money also. And energy in my experience! Less decision making required on a daily basis. Well done π

This is great! I never really think about how much food is wasted, but I’m sure it’s a lot. Now I have a new goal to work towards!
