It’s Food Waste Friday, and officially hosted over at The Frugal Girl today!
(I host alternate weeks)
Participating as always on a Friday, here’s my Friday Fridge. Premiered earlier on Instagram.
Simply Being Mum’s Friday Fridge
Hanging around I can see some broccoli and carrots. Not a problem. I can see a Paleo soup being slow cooked.
I’m eating Paleo currently. Which is just a term for real, whole food. Pretty much how we eat here at Chez Wright, with a few omissions. I’m not following it to the letter. Just what works for us.
Did you read Tuesday’s recipe? It explains how I picked up a great book by Joy Skipper from Aldi. Highly recommend.
Daily breakfast is now a Paleo smoothie.
This leads me onto this weeks food waste confession. Although small, rather on topic.
I’m spending more and more time on Twitter. I love it.
In fact that was where I first mentioned my raspberry disaster and was busted by Ryan from Dad Creek. I dropped a rogue raspberry, that was headed for my smoothie, on the floor and unknowingly trod it across the kitchen.
It reminded me even the smallest raspberry squashed is in fact food waste.
(I didn’t take a photo, it was rather grim).
Have you squashed any raspberries this week? Or are you more of a strawberry squasher?
Don’t forget to link up over at The Frugal Girl (and here – please share below also).

You wasted a WHOLE raspberry?! For shame…
Raspberries don’t get a chance here as they are my favorite fruit. I planted 2 raspberry canes earlier this year and they’re thriving and already have berries forming on them, but they’re located in front of some windows we decided to replace and I was told they would need to be pulled out. Hmmm, nope, I think the installers will need to figure out how they can install the windows in spite of them (maybe build a small platform? Or I might need to physically hold the canes back while they’re putting it in the windows, should be fun… but no one is touching my babies!).
We had some waste over here, unfortunately, and I made a decision that will actually increase my food “waste” for the forceable future. Read all about it here: http://imperfectlyfrugally.blogspot.com/2015/03/food-waste-friday_27.html

Lol- I have definitely wasted some food to the floor before. I try to salvage what I can, but sometimes things just get squashed!
Here is how we did: http://wp.me/p4yT07-1iQ

I don’t think I had any food waste this week! Squee!! First time in ages! I think I am shopping more sensibly, buying what we are actually going to eat, not the ideal fantasy of what we are going to eat (no matter how many times I buy tomatoes, no one eats them…) Bearing in mind I do not count children’s lunches that do not get eaten (really that should say ‘child’s lunches’ because Alex always eats everything I pack. It’s the other one who gets ‘busy’ with meetings etc and forgets to take her lunch along!). We are also eating a lot more fresh produce than we used to, salads so often my lettuce doesn’t get a chance to go slimy, and I am dabbling with being vegetarian again. And now I have a dog, food dropped on the floor doesn’t count as food waste…it’s fed the canine vacuum cleaner! 😉
