It’s Friday Guys – and as always I participate in The Frugal Girls Food Waste Friday.
(If joining in don’t forget the hashtag #FoodWasteFriday)
Alternate weeks (when I am not hosting) my Food Waste Friday posts are titled
No Waste Tastes Great
Because although it’s beneficial to highlight what food has been wasted, so it can be reduced going forward – it’s so important to make the food save.
We’re moving onto B.
I have some vacuum packed beetroot to use up. And use it quickly also if the ‘use by date’ is anything to go by.
Although I’m unsure how much vacuum packed beetroot would ever deteriorate?
I’ve always fancied the sound of a chocolate beetroot cake. But have yet to bake one.
I came across this recipe yesterday – which looks amazing.
However I’m curious. Have YOU ever baked one? And what is your favourite chocolate beetroot cake recipe? Please do share!
I’m sure my efforts will be shared all over Facebook, Twitter and Instagram over the weekend. You can’t beat a cake photograph.
As I never forget my No Waste Tastes Great routine here’s my fridge photo this Friday.
Simply Being Mum’s Friday Fridge
Not the most minimal fridge I have had. But there’s a plan for everything.
The salad will be eaten tonight.
I’m really on a healthy eating kick at the moment. And I’m loving my daily salad.
Again those who follow on Instagram will have seen the many many photos!
There has been waste this week – Boo! I had 2 mouldy strawberries, which didn’t quite make it into my new blender (oh yes I’ve had to buy a new appliance! I’m managing without a dishwasher, tumble dryer and washing machine at the moment – but not have my morning smoothie – no way!)
How’s your fridge looking this Friday? Full to the brim or nice and bare? Please share?
Oh and don’t forget that Chocolate Beetroot cake recipe – purlease!
Thanks as always to Kristen, The Frugal Girl, (the founder of Food Waste Friday and the inspiration behind No Waste Tastes Great)…Don’t forget to head on over to her’s to link up your Food Waste Friday post!

Indeed beetroot and chocolate cake is something I do often. More of chocolate brownie cupcakes. I use beet juice as a natural food coloring in many things. They are a great combo 🙂
Here is my week on the blog. A bit of waste……and some chat about ways I am making life more simple and waste free

Hi Vicki – I’ve had a suggestion over at Twitter to go with ‘Brownies’. Thanks!
I’ll be over in a bit. Looking forward to hearing what you have to say on the ‘simple life!’.

I have done a beetroot chocolate cake before. Grating up the beetroot was a real pain (and VERY messy) and to be honest the cake tasted a bit weird – unfortunately I can’t find the recipe to avoid though!! I’m sure it’s great with a good recipe though.

Thanks Claire. To be honest I was considering blending the beetroot, but am wondering whether that will be too runny? Someone’s suggested a JO recipe over at Twitter. Jamies recipes usually work out so may have a crack at that!

Poor strawberries! But that’s not bad waste considering how late in the season it is, they go so quickly at this time of year. Freeze them next time though, frozen fruit gives the best texture in smoothies. I have a whole section in my freezer just dedicated to smoothie fruit!

Yay! Lauren! You’ve made my day. You haven’t been over in ages. Although you always have something great to add elsewhere in the virtual world (Twitter, Instagram…). Today’s Tweet really made me laugh. I love to get your comments! Don’t stop! (is that enough exclamation marks for today – have I demonstrated my enthusiasm?)
Totally agree on freezing fruit. The strawbs should have made their way over there earlier in the week. I keep a tub of ‘frozen fruits’ – In my ‘minimal’ freezer it’s pretty much fruit, bread and ice-cream.
