No Waste Tastes Great / I Wasted A Watermelon

July 18, 2014 by SimplyBeingMum

It’s Friday Guys – time for No Waste Tastes Great as part of Food Waste Friday

Have you seen Dirty Dancing?

Of course you have.

Well, as you know Baby carries a watermelon. Unfortunately I wasted a watermelon. But more on that later…

Simply Being Mum’s Friday Fridge

IMG_4805No video today. I had a comment, earlier this week, that I sound as though I’m doing the voice-over for the infamous M&S television adverts. This made me laugh, and a little self-conscious at the same time. But that’s not why I chose to photograph instead, there just isn’t a lot to say.

My Friday fridge is looking okay today. There’s salad which will easily go with the pre-cooked salmon. And the strawberries and blueberries will be topped with the Greek yogurt.

However, there is waste to confess.

Can you see the pool of juice at the bottom? The watermelon inside was inedible.

This was the very first time ‘I wasted a watermelon’. And just like Baby, I had to repeat to myself what I just said – ‘I wasted a watermelon?’ – in disbelief.

Not my finest hour.

In my defence I did make a souper save this week.

I made nail soup.

Pretty sure that butternut squash, beetroot, potatoes and onion will end up in my next batch.

After all #nowastetastesgreat

How about you? How is your fridge looking this Friday? Any waste to declare?

Thanks as always to Kristen, The Frugal Girl, (the founder of Food Waste Friday and the inspiration behind No Waste Tastes Great)…Don’t forget to head on over to her’s to link up your Food Waste Friday post!

You are not alone in your watermelon wasting – I had to throw out a half of one. One watermelon + two people + unexpected surgery = waste 🙁

Good so far – it was a partial retinal detachment, I am two weeks post-op and trying to be a good patient with the many restrictions I am under; luckily the computer is allowed 🙂 Thanks for asking, Jo.

Ha made me laugh that…’ You wasted a watermelon!!’ Said in a dodgy american accent!!
Have you got a compost heap Jo? We have one, and i don’t count it as waste if it doesn’t go to landfill!! (cheatin!? Moi?) Hubs has been on the food/waste duty this week and i have to confess, he’s better than me at it. We have also gone to half size bins and he’s also the bin police, i really think he’s found his vocation in life 🙂

Not watermelon fans over here. Too bad though.
I had the light bulb in my fridge break this week and is yet to be replaced. All week I have been searching for things in the dark cavern that is our fridge!

Here is my week of food waste
