It’s Friday Guys – time for No Waste Tastes Great.
There is a video of this week’s Friday fridge. However after waiting about an hour for it to upload to YouTube I have given up.
I actually hadn’t planned on videoing my fridge this week, but it seemed easier than explaining through words. The sound of my washing machine in the background proves I hadn’t planned on videoing this week. Poor planning on my part. But I guess given I can’t get the fridge video to upload you won’t hear it anyhow. Probably for the best!
Simply Being Mum’s Friday Fridge
Top Shelf – Mixture of spreads and cheeses with some yoghurt thrown in.
Top Middle shelf – Cheese Straws and 3 bottles of Sol
Bottom Middle Shelf – Salad
Bottom shelf – Shallots
My No Waste Tastes Great plan for this Friday fridge is straightforward.
The majority of the items lend themselves to what the Kids’ call a ‘Choosing Tea’.
We’ll be lunching on salad and cheese this weekend. The cheese straws will make a quick after school snack tonight.
The shallots will end up in my slow cooker this Sunday. I envisage a nice beef casserole, with leftovers for lunches next week.
The fridge is looking good. But I do have waste 🙁
(Can you tell I’m struggling to get to grips with my new camera lens I had for my birthday?)
A smidge of sour cream and a tiny block of blue cheese.
There are 2 food stuffs I cannot bear. Blue cheese and pure dark chocolate.
This cheese was leftover from a birthday get together last weekend. It has to go. It smells.
It’s stinky cheese. We need to part company.
There was tomato waste also, as those who follow me on Instagram will have seen.
(If you haven’t an Instagram account, go get one if you like sharing images. Truly it’s my favourite form of social media – super simple to use and very friendly. It’s feels very cosy!)
Not the best week, not the worst either on the food waste front.
Onwards and upwards!
How about you? How is your fridge looking this Friday? Any waste to declare?
Thanks as always to Kristen, The Frugal Girl, (the founder of Food Waste Friday and the inspiration behind No Waste Tastes Great)…Don’t forget to head on over to her’s to link up your Food Waste Friday post!

I have actually stopped buying sour cream. We use Greek yogurt instead. I put a paper towel in the strainer & plop a blob of yogurt on the towel to drain a bit, and to me it tastes just as good as sour cream.

Fantastic idea! I always have greek yoghurt to hand. No more sour cream. I love a ‘multi-tasking’ foodstuff!

It’s very humid here this time of year, and I usually keep bread in the fridge, but I accidentally left it out and a piece got moldy before I even opened the package up.
what are cheese straws, btw? I have seen them referred to several times in British books.

Trish – my Mom has made these for years. Which interestingly is a bit of an ordeal for her, as she loathes cheese in any description. That’s motherly love eh? Basically its puff pastry with grated cheese twisted together and baked. My Mom’s are the best ever! In fact it’s a planned post!
