Each week since March 2008, in order to motivate her to waste less food, Kristen The Frugal Girl, has posted a picture of any food that has gone bad over the last seven days. She found this embarrassing practice so helpful, to her, that she invited other bloggers to post their own photos, and Food Waste Friday was born.
I started participating in October 2010 and have found, 3-years on, the amount of food I waste is minimal. Every Friday, as part of my No Waste Tastes Great routine, I account for all my potential food waste as well as confessing to any items that I failed to save.
Kristen kindly asked me to host Food Waste Friday, alternate weeks and her initial invite for everyone to join in is cordially extended here!

A slight twist this Food Waste Friday.
There’s no photo of my Friday Fridge
Because it’s not my usual Friday Fridge. Or my usual Friday routine.
I’m on the Suffolk coast currently (you may have seen some photos on Instagram).
Although I typed this post up last Saturday before we left.
We do have housesitters, but I thought asking them to photograph my fridge at home was a little above and beyond the call of duty.
Now if this goes to plan, I’ll post again later on Youtube. I’ve been promised that there will be Wifi access in the bar of where we are staying. Whether I’ll be in any fit state to post to YouTube if I spend time in the campsite bar is another matter. But we can hope.
Regardless of what I am up to (or not depending on how it pans out) this isn’t about me. It’s about you.
It’s Food Waste Friday guys, please share your saves and fails here. Don’t forget to drop a link to your own blog if you’ve posted about it. Unfortunately my blog doesn’t support Linky’s like Kristens does, but do not let that deter you. It’s worth dropping in!
**I can’t link to the actual video – because my time travel transporter is out of action. But this links to Simply Being Mum’s YouTube channel. There’s a chance due to time differences and whether I actually managed the to upload, it may already be on there. If not please do check back later!**
As always I’ll leave the last word to Kristen…
“How did you do this week? If you blogged about your food waste, link us up by entering your blog link into the comments section below. You’ll save money, reduce your trash output, and get a little publicity for your blog! And if you don’t blog, you can still share about your food waste by leaving a comment without a link.
Those of you who participate in Food Waste Friday can now grab a fancy-schmancy button to perk up your posts. If you copy and paste the following code into your Food Waste Friday post, this little graphic will appear.”
If you blog on WordPress, just make sure you’re in html mode when you copy and paste the code, or it won’t work

I was tripped up by a persimmon and a couple of mandarin oranges( which may be saved).
Anyone with any ideas of what to do with persimmon besides eat them straight?
There was a sad half container of sprouts I never like to use when they get soggy and a half rotten tomato.
Enjoy the Suffolk Coast!

I’m new to this, but I did pretty well!
We didn’t waste anything other than the food my one year old dropped on the floor and refused to eat.
I froze some veggies, used some tomatoes in a breakfast casserole and ate lots of leftovers. Here is my post on it: http://wp.me/p4yT07-Mj

Oh and you can get a free linky for wordpress through Inlinkz. You just have to send it to the site instead of it coming up on yours. I do one on Sunday that I’d love for you to check out. It is live at 8:00 p.m. Eastern every Saturday. Check out the Inlinkz and see if you like it. It should work with your WordPress site. Mine is similar to yours. Hope that helps!

A vacation on the coast and a YouTube channel! You’re a busy person these days. The excitement here is that we had one bad potato but fried up the rest of them with bacon for dinner last night.

Not much wasted here this week! One capsicum that was pretty gnarly to begin with (it was very misshapen and never really ripened to the colour it was supposed to be – a yellow one) and a couple of satsumas (our neighbour is still gifting us his surplus and we really must start passing them on to kids at school as we just can’t eat them all!). My grocery day is Wednesday/Thursday depending and I may have to squeeze in an extra vegie shop this week as I am nearly out and it’s only Sunday! Hope you’ve had a nice, not too wet trip to the coast 🙂
