Each week since March 2008, in order to motivate her to waste less food, Kristen The Frugal Girl, has posted a picture of any food that has gone bad over the last seven days. She found this embarrassing practice so helpful, to her, that she invited other bloggers to post their own photos, and Food Waste Friday was born.
I started participating in October 2010 and have found, 3-years on, the amount of food I waste is minimal. Every Friday, as part of my No Waste Tastes Great routine, I account for all my potential food waste as well as confessing to any items that I failed to save.
Kristen kindly asked me to host Food Waste Friday, alternate weeks and her initial invite for everyone to join in is cordially extended here!

It wouldn’t be Friday without a Fridge photo.
Simply Being Mum’s Friday Fridge
A clean Fridge photo,
It’s all about Spring cleaning here, at Chez Wright, this week.
Cracking open the oracle of Spring cleaning information, I decided to double-check how I clean my Fridge is how The Perfect Housewife does it also.
It is.
Because I meal plan, only buy what I need for 7 days, empty my fridge and clean it each Friday, it doesn’t need a Spring clean. It’s typically always clean.
But I appreciate that not everyone does this ,every week. But it’s most certainly worth doing regularly, even if not even 7 days.
What did I find it my Friday fridge this week?
Everything that was returned to the shelves has a destination in mind. I can see a salmon salad for lunch tomorrow. So, it’ll be a fish and chip supper at Chez Wright tonight.
There are potential food-waste casualties.
2 spoons worth of cottage cheese (opened just a little too long), 3 wrinkly carrots and a slightly mouldy tomato.
The carrots can be saved. I’ll add to a vegetable soup I have planned (there are also 3 fresh carrots lurking) – an adaptation of this recipe.
The tomato is not a problem.
I’m an old-hand at chopping tops of toms.
Unfortunately the cottage cheese will go to waste. Must. Try. Harder.
How’s your Fridge looking this Friday?
As always I’ll leave the last word to Kristen…
“How did you do this week? If you blogged about your food waste, link us up by entering your blog link into the comments section below. You’ll save money, reduce your trash output, and get a little publicity for your blog! And if you don’t blog, you can still share about your food waste by leaving a comment without a link.
Those of you who participate in Food Waste Friday can now grab a fancy-schmancy button to perk up your posts. If you copy and paste the following code into your Food Waste Friday post, this little graphic will appear.”

Nothing as of right now. But that asparagus is truly a potential problem.
Today I cleaned out several years of ashes from my fireplace (about 2 gal worth, nothing hideous). Sunday is slated to be post-winter garage tiding, complete with making a new compost bin.
Have fun!

I admit it, I’m here to see your kitchen. And it was worth the peek. So pretty! White kitchens rock!
Glad to see you over here Kris…

That’s the thing about anything you clean regularly, isn’t it? Doesn’t need spring cleaning! Your fridge is a perfect example.
I love your kitchen. It must be a joy to work in!
Thanks Jo. Yes I do keep on top of the fridge… It’s my ‘must do’.
