No Friday fridge photo today. Regardless, it’s still No Waste Tastes Great.
We’ll head straight into my food-waste. Get the bad news over quickly.
(Image out of focus I’m afraid. The weather is so grim here in the UK, I’ve got artificial light on and it’s messing with all my setting etc… no excuse really, but seriously we have no light!)
I wasted meat. Turkey mince to be precise. Overbuying the amount I required for our slow-cooked chilli this week, the intention had been to do a large batch and freeze it for lunches. I forgot. Oops.
If this had of been beef mince, I may have cooked it today. ‘May’ being the operative word. The use-by-date is just one day over, but I know the meat is at least 7-days old. At least.
I’m not prepared to take any chances with poultry. Those who read my slow-cooked-turkey post at Christmas can stand testament to this. The post was rather long, once I had added all the food-safety guidelines on storing and cooking poultry. As Julie Roberts tells Richard Gere in Pretty Woman ‘I’m a safety gal’.
On a more positive note it’s the start of the Chinese New Year.
This means that as I’m not rustling up a dish with my not-so-potential-but-actual-waste – we’ll be enjoying some tasty Chinese fayre at Chez Wright, tonight.
Although I was well within my rights to order in takeaway ;-), I opted for a more economical/frugal method – which will undoubtedly mean our rumbling tummies won’t be waiting for the takeaway delivery driver to arrive. It’ll be a busy night, I’d imagine, at the local Chinese takeaways. If they are even open.
No Waste Tastes Great is a little later than usual this Friday. That’s because I switched my usual schedule around. I hit Aldi first. to do my usual shop.
On the way home I popped in at Sainsbury’s who are running a great deal on Chinese meals. Possibly in anticipation of the new year.
This is what we’ll be tucking into later.
(Gosh this is out of focus too. Sorry. I know I need to put glasses on , but didn’t realise how much!)
The Chinese beer I did grab from Aldi. Obviously the Kids won’t be partaking!
How’s your Fridge looking this Friday, nice and bare, please share? And will you be seeing in the Chinese New Year?
No Waste Tastes Great is bought to you as always with thanks to Kristen The Frugal Girl as part of Food Waste Friday.
