Packing Up To Leave Christmasland

December 30, 2013 by SimplyBeingMum

We’ve had a lovely Christmas at Chez Wright –  We hope you’ve had one too?

Lot’s of wonderful new memories to add to the bank.

But slowly we’re starting to pack up in anticipation of leaving Christmasland.

(This is how we left Christmasland 2 years ago – it’s funny looking back, I had hardly any hair in 2011. Last Christmas I was too ill to blog consistently over the holiday period and wrote a rather lethargic post to end 2012)

Christmas day is a busy day. We host the family here. Boxing day is spent in onesies assembling the new lego that arrived under the tree, and finishing off leftovers.

Home organisation goes out of the window for a week.

The new toys and books are left out to be constructed, played with, and appreciated.

Then, as New Year approaches, it’s time to put the house back in order.

The main tree, will stay up until New Year’s day.

As will the artificial table-top tree in the dining room – above.

The poinsettias still have life left in them yet.

However, the cards are starting to be recycled, Michael Buble’s CD is no longer being played and the Christmas jumpers are washed, dried and ready to fold and pack away.

Time to wave goodbye to Christmas 2013 and welcome in the New Year 2014.

Are you starting to move on into the New Year or is Christmas still in full swing?

It is sad when all signs of Christmas are gone. I have green lights all around the door to my deck year round so I just light them up when the need arises. Happy New Year. !

After New Years’ is the time when I find the Christmas cards, decorations, the presents under the Christmas tree, and even the tree clutter. Yet, we don’t “pack up” Christmas until the 6th January.

We were very late getting our tree up this year, so I’m not anxious to take it down. It’s not in the way, and I love to sit at night with the room darkened and only the tree lights on with a glass of wine and just unwind. No more toys here – the children still at home are teenagers – so lots less clutter than in the past. Jo, a happy and healthy new year to you and your family. Looking forward to more terrific posts in 2014.

We are still in full Christmas swing here. We just got back from traveling for a few days, so many things to do and organize. In the meantime, I think I’ll just enjoy the tree as Susan is.

For some reason, I felt the need to get everything put away quickly this year. I just wanted a clean fresh start and putting the clutter away gets me in a better mindset. But every year I find myself in a different place, some years I want it out for awhile so I can admire the prettiness.
