It’s Friday Guys – My turn once more to host Food Waste Friday!
Each week since March 2008, in order to motivate her to waste less food, Kristen The Frugal Girl, has posted a picture of any food that has gone bad over the last seven days. She found this embarrassing practice so helpful, to her, that she invited other bloggers to post their own photos, and Food Waste Friday was born.
I started participating in October 2010 and have found, that 3-years on, the amount of food I waste is minimal. In fact every Friday, as part of my No Waste Tastes Great routine, I account (and devise a plan) for all my potential food waste as well as confessing to any items that I failed to save.
Kristen has kindly asked me to host Food Waste Friday, alternate weeks (when she doesn’t post herself), and her initial invite for everyone to join in is cordially extended here!

Simply Being Mum’s Friday The 13th Fridge
(Taken deliberately dark to add atmosphere. Okay so it wasn’t. Got my camera setting wrong! :()
Friday the 13th is considered unlucky by some. There is even an official phobia – The fear of Friday the 13th has been called friggatriskaidekaphobia.
There’s nothing unlucky about this Friday The 13th, for me, The school Christmas play went fantastically and I have no food waste to declare.
My fridge has the usual spreads and cheeses on the top shelf. Below there’s half a bag of salad (still fresh – oh yes!), some cucumber and 2 mackerel fillets.
There’s an unopened carton of Greek yogurt at the bottom – great on muesli for next week’s breakfasts.
This Food Waste Friday post was intended for after lunch. The original plan was to include a photograph of the mackerel pasta salad, Hubby and I, had for lunch. But, we’ve been invited out for a pub lunch. How could we decline such a great offer?
So, it’ll be salad for dinner instead. The Kids will have their usual Friday fish and chip treat. We’re singing carols around the Village Christmas tree this evening. The chippy is right next door 😉
This Friday the 13th gets better and better!
As always I’ll leave the last word to Kristen…
“How did you do this week? If you blogged about your food waste, link us up by entering your info into the widget below. You’ll save money, reduce your trash output, and get a little publicity for your blog! And if you don’t blog, you can still share about your food waste by leaving a comment.
**I’ve decided not to include the LINKY for the foreseeable. My blog doesn’t allow links on the actual post, and being redirected to another page isn’t ideal. Please drop your link in the comments section.** Jo
Those of you who participate in Food Waste Friday can now grab a fancy-schmancy button to perk up your posts. If you copy and paste the following code into your Food Waste Friday post, this little graphic will appear.”
If you blog on WordPress, just make sure you’re in html mode when you copy and paste the code, or it won’t work

Carols around the village Christmas tree. That sounds like a scene out of a movie. Have fun and congratulations on no waste.
I also had no waste this week mostly because we didn’t make it to the store.

Well done on no waste to you too…

Good job on the no-waste front, Jo! And woo-hoo on the bagged salad 🙂
So, I don’t know if this counts as a no-waste solution to some apples and carrots we had that were past their prime … I put them in the yard for the little springy-legged deer that has been wandering around our neighbourhood (we live in a town). They were gone this morning, so I’m counting it as a win! I did have some ages-old rice to compost, though. And some leftover casserole I took to a pot-luck supper – it sat out WAY too long to take a chance on keeping it. Otherwise, we did pretty well this week.
