It’s Friday Guys – Time for No Waste Tastes Great
Simply Being Mum’s Friday Fridge
I’ve had my eye on the prize this week. The prize being zero-waste. It was near, but not quite a hit.
The fridge is looking good, but there were casualties earlier in the week – which I disposed of.
So not exactly a waste-free week for me.
The buttermilk didn’t quite get used up despite me trying out a new scone recipe.
The beauty of these bakes is in their imperfection. Unashamedly home-made.
The rotting tomatoes I found among a much larger haul. I’ve been a lucky girl of late. There have been apples and tomatoes donated, in the lorry-load, by very kind friends.
Realising some may be starting to go to waste, I took it into hand.
Which led to my rather random Facebook video-post yesterday.
Oh yes ~#INeedToGetOutMore
(*explanation – each day I’m randomly selecting a CD from my rarely played collection, this post explains more).
We’re now proud owners of a vast quantity of applesauce and tomato soup at Chez Wright. They’ve been frozen. The applesauce is headed for a fundraiser and the tomato soup will make some great lunches next week.
How’s your Fridge looking this Friday? Anything to declare? Or is it nice and bare? Please share…and don’t forget to drop a link in the comments if you’ve blogged about it!
No Waste Tastes Great is bought to you (as always) with thanks to The Frugal Girl for the original inspiration.
The lucky ladies from Wednesday’s giveaway, as part of Colgate Oral Health Month, are Louise and Gill. They will both receive a Spiderman toothbrush kit in the very near future.
Thank you to everyone who entered!
Have a fantastic weekend everyone!
It looks a lot like my fridge right now! I tend to only buy what I need and use up eerything until it becomes too challenging! I had to throw some left over boiled potatoes that didn’t look good anymore! Good job!
Thank you. Yes we do sound similar in how we run our fridges! Shame about the potatoes. But once pots have “gone” they’ve gone…

Lucky you, having tomatoes and apples donated, and well done staying on top of most of them. I didn’t have any waste this week, but that was mainly because I haven’t shopped in a while and have just been eating up what I have in the house.
Skipping the shopping certainly does reduce waste no doubt. Makes for some interesting meals also 😉

Well done for a nearly zero waste week!
Thank you!

After looking at your pictures, I want some scones. 🙂
Making some more today… Keen to try out the buttermilk recipe!

Mmm….fresh baked scones! YUM!
Tip – you can make your own buttermilk by adding lemon juice or white vinegar into milk, mixing and letting sit to do their thing for about 10 mins on counter (or in fridge). Not sure if its the texture you’re wanting though but thats what I do now instead of buying buttermilk.
Thank you for this! It’s going to make life much easier…and will mean less waste! How simple! love it!
I believe the ratio is 1c milk to 1tbsp of lemon juice. Stir well and let sit for 5 mins before use. 🙂
