School’s been out for over a week now.
I haven’t blogged about it as I have hardly been home. Two trips to Wales and one to Shropshire has meant my virtual home has been abandoned somewhat.
No phone/internet signal, for me, in either of those locations.
I like to schedule the school holidays. If you quantify the amount of holidays children have, there aren’t that many until they’re too cool to hang out with Mom.
Today we are off to Warwick Castle, with some gratis tickets a friend gave me. I love mixing education and fun…win-win!
Memories of my own school holidays include getting to watch Kids TV. As a child of the Seventies there was no video, DVD or round-the-clock Disney channel. TV was still a treat in those days.
My favourite was ‘Why Don’t You?’.
Watching back the clip you can kind of see where I was headed…
Another Seventies classic, albeit a toy this time, was Swingball. I always wanted, but alas never had, a Swingball set.
Fortunately my Kids were brought one this Summer – hurrah! They were playing it as Andy Murray won Wimbledon.
Which brings me onto the giveaway today.
The lovely people at Argos have a First Swingball to give away to a reader.
It’s exactly the same as ours.
You Guys know me. I only recommend products and retailers I myself use. And as usual I was in no way compensated for this post – I just thought it’d be fun!
This is a great product. The simplicity of it – is the beauty of it.
So easy to assemble (it’s weighted down with water or sand), transport and pack away. You can use it in the garden, on holiday, at a friends…etc…
The above photos of ours were taken on a Welsh campsite!
It’s been a big hit (pardon the pun) at Chez Wright!
If you fancy winning one for your Kids (or yourself – who am I to judge? ;-)) then please leave a comment. Personally I’d love to hear what your favourite schools-out activity was as a child, but if you’re not feeling inspired today feel free to just put ‘enter me I’m in the UK’.
Which reminds me – this is a UK giveaway only. However if you live overseas and know someone in the UK, you can nominate them to receive the Swingball!
Please have your comments in by 5.30pm 1st August 2013. The winner will be drawn by a random generator at 6pm that day. The winner will be announced on my Facebook page by 7pm that evening, and also will be included in Friday’s No Waste Tastes Great post here at the blog.
Oh, and please read the T&C’s below! Thank you!
I loved playing kirby on the streets with my mates 🙂

Ah! We were planning Warwick Castle today but have postponed until Thursday – I would have loved to spot you and say Hi! I also really loved watching Why Don’t You? I have a very clear memory of watching it at my Nan & Pap’s & seeing a trick where you pierce & slice a banana with a sewing needle and then show someone as you peel it ready sliced. My Nan & Pap had a small farm and as our parents worked full time, my brother and I spent the majority of the holidays there. I remember a lot of running around fields then lying in them reading. Bliss!! Hope you have a lovely day at Warwick.

We were lucky to live by the sea so exploring rock pools was a favourite for us!

You are right that TV used to be a treat because there weren’t as many choices. You had to wait for your favorite program for a week. I loved jumping rope and playing hide and seek with the neighborhood kids. (I’m not entering the give away.)

Making a tent in the garden and taking all my soft toys out there. Also, building dens in a nearby wood.

Red Rover – until we were banned from playing due to the number of injuries 🙁

I used to love playing on the monkey bars. These metal bars were high, up of the ground, and you could swing back and forth with the backs of your knees. Due to safety issues the playground is no longer is allowed to have these.I am surprised they still allow swings!

We lived really close to a country park and spent hours playing hide and seek amongst the trees, building dens and collecting flowers and pine cones!

I used to love playing British Bulldogs. I think it’s banned now!
