It’s Friday Guys – My turn once more to host Food Waste Friday!
Each week since March 2008, in order to motivate her to waste less food, Kristen The Frugal Girl, has posted a picture of any food that has gone bad over the last seven days. She found this embarrassing practice so helpful, to her, that she invited other bloggers to post their own photos, and Food Waste Friday was born.
I started participating in October 2010 and have found, that 2-years on, the amount of food I waste is minimal. In fact every Friday, as part of my No Waste Tastes Great routine, I account (and devise a plan) for all my potential food waste as well as confessing to any items that I failed to save.
Kristen has kindly asked me to host Food Waste Friday, alternate weeks (when she doesn’t post herself), and her initial invite for everyone to join in is cordially extended here!

Looking good, even if I do say so myself.
Just some chocolate fudge cake batter to use up.
Left over from baking this.
Can you tell what it is yet? (said in my best Rolf Harris voice)…
Do these help?
Photo will be on Facebook tomorrow!
As always I’ll leave the last word to Kristen…
“How did you do this week? If you blogged about your food waste, link us up by entering your info into the widget below. You’ll save money, reduce your trash output, and get a little publicity for your blog! And if you don’t blog, you can still share about your food waste by leaving a comment.
**I’ve decided not to include the LINKY for the foreseeable. My blog doesn’t allow links on the actual post, and being redirected to another page isn’t ideal. Please drop your link in the comments section.** Jo
Those of you who participate in Food Waste Friday can now grab a fancy-schmancy button to perk up your posts. If you copy and paste the following code into your Food Waste Friday post, this little graphic will appear.”

If you blog on WordPress, just make sure you’re in html mode when you copy and paste the code, or it won’t work p

I don’t think I’ve had any food waste this week! YAY! I have been really strict on meal planning the last few weeks, I am only buying what I am going to use and being really careful about using it up and it’s working! Hooray! Long may it last 🙂 My money is on your cake being a ladybug 🙂
simplybeingmum says
Yay for no waste!
As for your guess…good guess…think the 4 circles may be a redherring…I only need 2.

I worked hard on using up things we had in the refrigerator, so I had no waste this week. Yea!
I don’t have any ideas about the cake yet. How big are those circles?
simplybeingmum says
Well done on no waste!

I didn’t have a very good week for food waste – the most annoying waste was my lunch, which meant I had to spend money buying lunch 🙁 Oh well, next week will be better:

I *was* doing great, despite a weird and changing schedule. Then I saw
1) The half a jicama … all moldy. This is a very painful waste because jicama is quite expensive around here and that was a $5 mistake.
2) The work yogurt gone unexpectedly moldy just after it’s due date. Usually it’ll last a couple weeks longer. It happens sometimes, when the container was in warmer-than-usual conditions, such as on my desk (not this time, though) or in someone’s cart then returned to the fridge.
Didn’t buy lunch despite being outside my usual patterns.
No great saves this week but did have two augmented smorgasbords (a meal consisting of leftovers augmented with a small amount of new food) for dinner. Also a meal or two of homemade hummus, to use up what turned out to be a half gallon of the stuff. Two weeks later there’s still some left and it still has no indicators of going bad.
In a related note, my visiting niece asked if I’d gone to cooking school and if I could teach her.

Now you know you’re doing something right when you get asked for lessons! A great compliment, but I’m sure well-deserved.

Wasted bread and oranges here! I’m sure the cake will be yummy. I didn’t have much of a clue but I think Shelley above might be on to something…
simplybeingmum says
Shelley sure was!

OK… I’m not even going to take a guess as to what that cake is… suffice it to say that my brain is thinking Buddhist fertility temple…
simplybeingmum says
I like it… now a buddha cake? why not?
EcoCatLady says
Um… well, not exactly a Buddha… The fertility temples I was thinking of often have a large statue representing a certain part of the mail anatomy, over which they pour milk, honey and other liquid offerings! Sorry… it’s just what the picture made me think of!

I say M. Mouse (either gender!) for the cake, too!
Well done on the lack of waste! You must be getting your mojo back 🙂
I didn’t fare as well, having had a busy week at work. I’m going to have to be on my toes to do better!
simplybeingmum says
Good luck next week and Jo you are correct, it’s Minnie!
