No Waste Tastes Great / What A Waste!

January 18, 2013 by SimplyBeingMum

It’s Friday Guys – Time for No Waste Tastes Great

Click here to find out more about my Friday routine

There’s no photo of Simply Being Mum’s Friday Fridge this week!

(But if new to site and wondering what on earth I’m talking about then click here)

The lack of a fridge photo is due to 2 factors;

1. I’ve run out of upload space on my blog and need to upgrade. On the to-do list for today.

2. We have snow in the UK and lot’s of it.

So why would snow prevent me photographing my fridge?

Because it’s packed to the rafters full of the forthcoming weeks groceries. I did my grocery shop a day early as I knew the white stuff was on its way.

100_0298

(There you go…an artistic shot of a beer can in snow from my ski holiday in Canada 2004 – classy lass aren’t I?- already uploaded to blog so within my space limit. Can’t have a post with no photo!)

I do have a food waste confession this Friday, and it’s pretty bad. Brace yourselves. I’ve wasted meat this week. Minced beef and ham. This is appalling and one of my worst weeks in probably over 12 months.

This confession is made all the harder to bear because last night I watched the ITV Tonight documentary What A Waste. And I couldn’t agree more. Much more needs doing in the UK to reduce food waste.

If you can please watch it. It’ll help educate those who need some extra guidance on reducing waste, and will motivate and encourage those who already try their very best to keep waste as minimal as possible.

Have a lovely Friday y’all… I’m thinking a little snowman construction time may be on the cards later…

How’s your Fridge looking this Friday? Anything to declare? Or is it nice and bare? Please share…

No Waste Tastes Great is bought to you (as always) with thanks to The Frugal Girl for the original inspiration.

I’m a little disappointed that we don’t get to see your full fridge. That would be an interesting change.

        Okay you win 🙂
I’ll photograph it and put on FB. Not sure if either of you go over there? It’ll be later…off for some fun in the snow today!

My fridge is nearly as bare as your Friday fridge. Luckily we’re a short walk in the snow from our nearest supermarket!

Yup we’re all stocked up…but still we need some more milk…so on the way back from sledging we’ll pop in Nisa. Suburbia is nothing if not ‘convenient’! 😉

Hey Lili – that’s a pretty good week I’d say!
I loved that beer! Never seen it any where but BC though… Was drinking Coors light last night – it’s a good second choice.

I’ve been chiding myself for the waste I had this week too. Early in the week I mashed up a container of California strawberries to make strawberry shortcake (cream left over from Christmas). Never made the time to bake the shortcake, and the strawberries went funny smelling in the meantime. We should have gone ahead and eaten the berries by themselves when I hadn’t gotten the baking done within a few days – they smelled so good at the first of the week!

Another week ahead … another chance to redeem myself 🙂

Enjoy your snow! We got quite a bit the past week as well, here in Canada!

That happens to me also…best intentions to make something – like my choc fudge mix last week. It happens!
Snow every where then! I love snow… and Canada!

All in all, I would say you didn’t do too bad with just a little meat to toss. Where are you at in the UK and how much snow did you get? My cousins live in Surrey and rarely get the kind of snow we do here in Ohio (U.S.) but now and then they will get a freak storm that pretty much shuts things down.

Surrey is south – and they don’t tend to get much snow, unless as you say it’s an unusual downfall – then it hits ’em big time – motorways are gridlocked etc…
I’m in the middle – so it’s very predictable. We do get snow most years and usually it’s end Jan/Feb…but I heard the year I was born it snowed in June (the week before I arrived) whether that’s true or not I’m not sure.
The thing with GB (not Scotland they’re more used to it and organised)… is that as we probably get just a few days of significant snow each year it brings the country to a standstill. Airports were closed yesterday, and yet in Dec we flew into Finland (where I have never seen as much snow in my life – inc. when I visited Canada) no problem at all, just another day. 3000 schools were shut here yesterday, and I was told by a Finnish person that schools remained open there a few years back when they dropped as low as minus 55 in temp.
I’m a snowbunny and love it, so this weather is a treat to be savoured!

Going shopping today, so my fridge needs filling up. Lidl have mature cheddar for £1.22 apparently.
Any suggestions for chick pea recipes? I’m blogging about using every pea of a 500g bag.

Hi Penny – been over to yours – looking good. I love your tagline! I’d suggest a veggie chilli or a coconut and chick pea curry. Both very simple and you can slow cook them – very frugal! ps have subscribed to your blog…
