It’s Friday Guys – time for No Waste Tastes Great

Simply Being Mum’s Fridayย Thursday Fridge
Oh yes, I’m a day early once more. Why?
Thanks to kind reader Sharron, I had an Aldi voucher to spend.
**Thank you Sharron, you’re a star! It purchased a bottle of wine for the Christmas dinner table**
And back to the fridge. Top shelf is all spreads and cheese with life left in them.
I have grapes, which the Kids had promised to eat all up over the week. They didn’t. We’re going to try to get through as many as possible this weekend. I’m hoping they don’t make an appearance next week as part of Food Waste Friday.
The peppers will be popped in the slow cooker to make a Balti this evening with chicken I picked up whilst spending my voucher ๐
This leaves pumpkin and a courgette. We’ll be celebrating Bonfire Night this weekend. I’ll be taking along pumpkin muffins and nom-nom bread.
Now for the scary part;
My food waste confession this week.
I’m having a bad run with fresh produce lately. The potato shown here is in particularly bad shape. I opened the cupboard yesterday, and believe it or not, there was a very fishy smell in there. I never knew potato could smell like rotten salmon.
Note to self – I need to try harder!
On a positive note, my slow-cooked Christmas chutney is now all jarred up and waiting to be sent to Santa for distribution as gifts. The recipe will appear here, over the weekend, for those who’d like to give it a try!
And finally, there’s been a distinct lack of scary edibles over on the blog this year. So let us all at Chez Wright wish you a belated ‘Happy Halloween’…
I’d like to take credit for this masterpiece but alas It’s not all my own work! ๐ย
How’s your Fridge looking this Friday? Anything to declare? Or is it nice and bare? Please share…
No Waste Tastes Great is bought to you (as always) with thanks to The Frugal Girl for the original inspiration.
Don’t forget I update most days on Facebook.
Why not head on over and join the conversation?

Rotten potatoes can have one of the worst smells around. I had some rotten carrots this week, but thankfully they didn’t smell.

Oh yes they smell bad! I concur – from my experience you don’t get it with carrots! ๐

Wow, I don’t know that I’ve ever had a potato rot. They usually shrivel and sprout at our house. ๐
simplybeingmum says
First one for me also. Seems to have got wet somehow?

Your very Welcome, gald it got used ๐ We too did an early shop, all good though as our waste was literally nil this week and the ‘no buying fruit, only grapes and banannas’ went well .I had to pull out some tinned pineapple to put in the packed lunches this week, it’s probably only been in the cupboard for 12 months (it was in date-i checked).

We’ll raise a glass to you Christmas day as we sip our Aldi Cava! ๐
Great improvisation with the pineapple….

Ohh, I’ve had rotten potatoes once before. Quite possibly the worst smell on earth.
I have a scarily bare fridge. As in, I had to buy food on the way home because we didn’t have anything to eat for dinner tonight. But that’s OK, I’m trying to clear as much as possible before we move next month so purposely keeping the small stocks even smaller than usual.
Have you ever frozen grapes? I’ve never tried and it’s not really the weather for it, but apparently they’re delicious and refreshing straight from the freezer. One day I’ll try it, but they never stick around long enough in this house to find out.
simplybeingmum says
You’re moving? Staying in the city?
Frozen grapes – yep it works, but I have quite sensitive teeth and struggle with frozen fruit straight out the freezer so they aren’t that enjoyable for me. But I know of others who love them!
Lauren says
No one is dragging me out of my precious city anytime soon. ๐
Moving from South West to North though, so will be an interesting change. Love the feel of our new “village” from the few times we’ve been there so hoping it’s as good to live there every day. Getting a garden too, so might even be trying to grow some food!

Wow! That is quite a potato! I’ve never had one go that far before, but I can believe the horrible smell! I’ve been brought down by the green-leafies again this week…must remember to use up my spinach before it goes slimy! And loving that halloween creation ๐
simplybeingmum says
The greenies normally get me also. I couldn’t believe that smell came from a potato. I kept wondering whether I’d accidentally left something in there! Live and learn eh?
