No… it’s not…
Why?
Because I forgot to put an onion in the slow cooker. It should have been apparent I’d missed something after I photographed my ingredients for the post.
But it wasn’t.
So I now have 4 servings of parsnip, apple, honey and mustard soup sans onion. Which may explain why it smelt so sweet as it cooked yesterday.
I haven’t tasted it yet, but I will be, as will the Hubby. No kitchen disaster goes untasted at Chez Wright. I’m presuming it will be edible? After all we managed to consume the overdosed with honey version last time.
I’m thinking there may be some conspiracy against me producing this soup. Or then again maybe I should just pay a little more attention to what I’m doing?
So, an apology, no soup recipe this week.
On the bright-side I did pick up these very reasonably priced jars yesterday from TK Maxx.
An observer (aka The Hubby) could rightly suggest that maybe I should have filled the huge array of used-jars I’ve been collecting, all year, before purchasing new. But alas they were just too tempting. In my defense they are the jars I am using for Christmas gifts. And they will be re-used as they are to be gifted with a caveat that they will be topped up in the future each time I make some chutney.
Time to make a start on the chutney and also some gingerbread house biscuits. It’s going to start smelling very Christmassy around these parts this afternoon! I’ll post both recipes in the lead up to the holidays – that is providing I don’t miss out any crucial ingredients of course!
See you all tomorrow for Food Waste Friday. I’m hosting The Frugal Girl’s FWF once more. Please pop by and say Hi!

Ooh, I love those jars! There’s a three pack of Kilners that’s been tempting me the last three times I’ve been in there. I really don’t need more jars…

How could I resist? They were £1.49 each – so as a gift they were very reasonable! (I think I might know the Kilner ones you mentioned…they were very tempting also!)

Uhhh, what’s chutney? I could google it but I’d prefer to have you explain it, seeing as it seems a desirable, gift-able item.

It’s similar to pickle or relish – it’s a condiment added to cheese and crackers, sandwiches or many other dishes. I eat salmon with tomato chutney. Things like this in jars were traditionally given at Christmas in the UK I believe…

I hope you post the chutney recipe… I have been looking for a good one 🙂

Hi Nicole – yep the chutney recipe is soon to be posted. I made it last year and it was tasty – but didn’t post here. It’ll be over the next couple of weeks as you need a month for it to mature if giving as a gift for Christmas!

Damn. Could you gently saute an onion and add it to the soup post production? I forgot to put the blue berries in the blueberry mini muffins the other day – I was (badly) multitasking – but picked up on it while they were still cooking so a got them back out and pressed a couple into each. They were fine. What about dried onion or onion powder if you have any?

Hi Amy – that crossed my mind. Because I didn’t want to add oil or brown the onion, I was going to soften in water in the microwave. But as I am posting the recipe here, I didn’t know how that would affect taste and I wouldn’t post a recipe I hadn’t done. However you’re right regarding improving taste now I need to eat it myself! I’ll ponder and you may see something on my NWTG great. Great suggestion.

Amy beat me to the punch – I was going to suggest onion power, since it would blend in more easily. Also, I would think it should taste fine as it is!

Hi Jo – I may add an onion I think – I’ve a few to use up. But I’m going to have to taste it first without aren’t I ;-)?
