It’s Friday Guys – time for No WasteTastes Great
Click here to find out more about my Friday routine
Simply Being Mum’s Friday Fridge
Top Shelf – Spreads, garlic and 1 yoghurt (all in date)
Top Middle Shelf – Grapes and blueberries
Bottom Middle Shelf – 1 courgette (zucchini), 3 tomatoes, a few mushrooms and a green pepper
Bottom Shelf – Half a carton of chopped tomatoes
Door – Milk and Eggs
I can feel a vegetable lasagne coming on!
With what’s in the fridge it will most definitely be a lasagne for dinner (I’ll grab some cheese for the sauce when I do my shop later). I’ll make some garlic bread to accompany it.
That deals with everything apart from the grapes, which will be eaten up over the weekend, and the blueberries are destined for muffins tomorrow as part of a Saturday Afternoon Activity with the Kids.
The eggs have plenty of life still left in them, and I have a large birthday cake to bake next week.
It would appear it’s a no waste week then?
Wrong… I have some midweek waste that I couldn’t bear to leave till Friday, and it hit the food recycling bin.
We aren’t quite getting through a punnet of grapes each week, and this one just didn’t last 2 for some reason. The apple was really soft, and inedible. Must try harder!
How’s your Fridge looking this Friday? Anything to declare? Or is it nice and bare? Please share…
No Waste Tastes Great is bought to you (as always) with thanks to The Frugal Girl for the original inspiration.
And The Winner Is…
Thanks to everyone who left a comment on Wednesday’s post. I really enjoyed reading your decluttering dilemmas. It’s reassuring to know I’m not alone when it comes to hanging onto certain things, even when I know they should go.
There were 9 entrants to the giveaway.. and in a high technical way 😉 I wrote out 9 names on 9 pieces of paper.
Then I screwed them up into tiny balls, threw them vigorously in the air and picked one at random from where they landed.
Congratulations Stacey! Please can you drop me an e-mail at simplybeingmum(at)gmail(dot)com with your address please?
Don’t forget I’m now update daily on Facebook, why not pop across and join the conversation?

After last week, your fridge looks pretty full up. How do you feel about that?

I’d pretty much estimated I’d have veggies let over, so kinda had a lasagne in mind anyway this week….

Lasagne is always a good idea C:
My fridge is out of control right now. I’ve 45 people coming tomorrow and have been trying to get everything ready the past couple of days. Hopefully Sunday I’ll be able to see a little space.

Wow 45! Good luck! Have fun and here’s to being able to see the back of the fridge! 🙂

I’m so inspired by this series. I’m terrible at making sure everything, especially fruit and veggies, gets eaten before it goes bad. It used to be kind of okay because I fed things that were past their prime to our chickens who in turn produced yummy eggs so it didn’t feel like a complete waste. Now that the chickens are gone I need to get my act together.
I’m off to see what needs to be eaten up soon!

Good luck!
ps – like anything it soon becomes a habit. Key thing is keeping an eye on what you have in the fridge throughout the week!

Once again, I am impressed. If you want to see the polar opposite of your wasteless clean approach, just hop on over to my blog… I’m trying to reform, really I am!
Anyhow, for soft apples, I usually make an apple compote, which is easier than it sounds. Just cut it up, mix in a few raisins and sprinkle a bit of rum on top (OK – you can uses water, but rum tastes sooo much better). Pop it in the microwave (covered) for a few minutes and you have a yummy dessert!

Cat, I really should have done something with the apple I confess. You are right, apples and raisins work really well, I don’t have any rum to hand but could have used a sprinkle of cinnamon and some water. Bet it would have been good with custard! Off to check out your FWF…

I had to throw out fruit and nearly half a deli chicken – almost wept – because last Sunday was Mother’s Day here and we ordered takeout as a treat, and that pushed all the food in the fridge one more day towards expiry. I really need to start planning my meals; I think that is the missing step that is leading me to waste. Even if I had thought about the week coming up and realized we’d likely be ordering out, I would have delayed on opening some items and extended their lives. Live and learn!

Jo – really meal planning is the most important thing you can do to reduce food waste. Also doing an inventory as the week progresses. Because things do change. Last week I had planned for the week, but circumstances meant I did a quickie meal (pizza) and something went on the back burner. So in the freezer it went and quickly! Just plan 6 meals, but still be ready to adapt!

Hi Jo – I find your weekly fridge photos inspiring! I do miss the giant jar of beets though.

Cheers Danielle! I’m sure they’ll make a comeback at some point. I’ve been over to your blog and found it interesting reading, I love the science behind food. Jo
