So what have I been up to? An update for May 2011

June 1, 2011 by SimplyBeingMum

You may have noticed there hasn’t been an awful lot of activity around here of late.

It’s quite strange really, all the usual stuff is going on but I have not been blogging about it – and I really am not sure why.

Even writing this post, it’s quite odd. WordPress have changed the admin pages so it looks a little unfamiliar. It feels unfamiliar typing. It’s a bit like getting to know someone again.

I decided it was time to bite the bullet and get back in the saddle (two metaphors for the price of one there guys!)…

So where to start, perhaps first an explanation.

There wasn’t a Food Waste Friday last week, because firstly I didn’t have any waste at all and secondly and most importantly because we headed off to Legoland Windsor (fitting a quick visit to The Queens favourite weekend retreat in on the way home – Windsor Castle).

So what else have I been up to? Well lot’s of reading. Not about simplicity and minimalism. I’ve been reading a lot of Psychology articles as well as self-help books – this is an area I have always been interested in. I had ambitions of studying criminology – but didn’t get the examination grades to be able to get on the course.

One book I have read is called ‘Who Rules In Your Life‘ by Miriam Subirana. One of my closest friends Running_Mum finds my enjoyment of such books rather amusing.  What can I say I’m just not a Chick Lit kinda gal!

The other areas of life that have taken priority have been the baking of many Birthday Cakes (There’s a two tier in the oven as I type) and Potty Training. Oh yes the fun! Boy’s are very different to girls (in my experience) – and as I am not male I have found training my beautiful (if a little hesitant when it comes to telling me he needs to go) Son, quite a challenge. We are getting there – I saw every public toilet in Windsor about 15 times. Unfortunately that did not include the royal throne, although we did get our picture taken next to a Beefeater!

The slow cookers have been at capacity – today there’s a veggie curry cooking away and a chicken, leek and lentil casserole in the other.  I’m increasing my vegetarian repertoire – with recipes to follow – watch this space.

The Spring Sale has started, and I am £150 better off so far, further details to follow after the weekend and my mass sale on Sunday.

Finally I’ve been checking out ferry crossings to the Isle Of Man. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Rachel’s move, go check out the life changing experience of moving from the Big City to Small Island Life. As Rachel herself comments – there’s no Starbucks on The Manx. (Did anyone see Alex Riley do his stuff last night?)

GOOD LUCK RACHEL, CHRIS & HENRY!

Hey Jo! So glad you were able to kill two birds with one stone while biting the bullet and getting back in the saddle (couldn’t resist!). 🙂

It sounds like you’ve been having a great time with your newfound freedom. That’s great! 😉

How fun that you’ll get to meet up with Rachel! The Isle of Man sounds beautiful — make sure you get pictures to share with us!

Hi Jenny – it’s good to be back – popped over to yours – boy have you been busy! So looking forward to catching up with Rachel and I’ve never been to the Isle of Man – very exciting stuff!

Well at least if the birds were early they’d have gotten the worm before being killed with the one stone. 😀

Jo, I know what you mean about when software (even the web-based stuff) changes. It’s like when Microsoft released Office 2007 with the weird “ribbon bar” – even if it’s organized better (which I’m not sure I believe!), it’s still not as efficient because everybody has to re-learn it.

        *sigh*

Keep up the posting though, and you’ll get used to it again. I think part of the whole posting thing is just plain ol’ inertia – just like most any other habit. 😀
