It’s Friday Guys! Time to take part in The Frugal Girl’s Food Waste Friday and my very own No Waste Tastes Great Challenge.
Each Friday I follow my Routine, which means that by the time I type this post I will have stripped my fridge/perishables cupboard down, cleaned it, noted down any food stuffs required, popped a few things back in, and left on the counter the foodstuffs that could potentially go to waste.
Then it’s time to get the culinary thinking cap on, and conjure up some recipes…
So what is sitting on the counter this week in anticipation?
2 Chicken Breasts (Free Range)
3 Carrots
1 Parsnip
6 Large White potatoes
4 Peppers
Quite an easy No Waste Tastes Great Challenge today.
Slow Cooked Chicken with Vegetables in Beer Stew for the adults and mashed potatoes with the emergency frozen fish fingers and veggies I have for the Kids.
Just the peppers left then – again! It was celery a few weeks back that kept getting left over. The peppers will be chopped and frozen and added to the Rogan Josh I have planned for next week.
I’d really love to hear if anyone else is taking part in No Waste Tastes Great and how you are getting on…. Please do share if you are on a mission to reduce food waste in your home, however and whenever you are doing it. Tips on how to reduce further greatly appreciated!

Go Jo! Do you seriously clean your refrigerator every Friday? That makes me feel very lazy.
We really don’t have much food wasted around here. I guess that’s part of living with two hungry sons. I’m pretty good at surveying the fridge every couple of days and using up whatever is starting to age. The emptier my fridge, the easier this is for me.

Hi Jenny – I do indeed clean it – but it is so very simple because my fridge is tiny (I think by US standards) and also there isn’t really anything in it by Friday. Sounds like your boys have a good appetite! Have a lovely weekend Jo

Just cleaned out my fridge and was apalled at how much was spoiled or ‘past date’. Made a vow to thin the fridge and pantry and shop only for what we are going to use in the next two/three days (have a grocery store I pass every time I get in the car so frequesnt shopping not an issue). If we live where we are privileged to have more than enough to eat I think we have a responsibility to the rest of the world not to waste.

I know exactly what you mean Cat. A couple of Christmas’ ago I had so much waste it was immoral and I vowed never again! Write a plan and stick to it. It does work! As you say – only buy what you need. Good luck with your new regime – Jo
