My productivity is running on overdrive at the moment, as I gear up toward my busiest week (next), the one prior to the schools breaking up for the holidays. My aim is to have everything on my to do list completed by next weekend.
So this week I have combined my No Waste Tastes Great post and the Simple Meal Plan Week 5.
As always on a Friday I take part in Food Waste Friday over at The Frugal Girl.
As part of my usual routine, I have purged the fridge, to find;
8 x Celery Sticks
Handful of Green Beans
Some Broccoli and Carrots
5 x Apples and a very stale half of French stick
Pot of Fresh Custard
As I am out with friends this evening I had planned on making omelettes for the family – I will prepare the beans, broccoli and carrots to accompany their meal – so that’s all sorted!
The bread and apples I have sliced and placed in Brenda my Veggie/Pudding Slow Cooker and have poured over golden syrup. No idea what this will turn out like! Presume something edible will be the end result? Anyway we have a pot of custard to pour over – surely that will make all the difference!
Once again I have some celery over – for this I blame the supermarket. It is almost impossible to purchase single stalks of celery on line – so each week I have to buy a pack. Each week I have leftovers! So this week I will be having celery for lunch today and tomorrow with cream cheese to use it up. I really cannot face another celery based soup…
🙂
Simple Meal Plan Week 5
As next week will be very busy for me, I have planned a very simple menu – no new recipes and a lot of meals that can be slow cooked for ease.
My total shop bill this week for all my groceries, household items and delivery is £65 – £35 less than budget – yay!

Friday
Friday is Food Waste Friday – I follow a simple routine, and whatever is left gets used up. If the fridge is bare the Hubby and I get a takeaway! The Kids get a meal cooked as I always have something I can rustle up from storecupboard ingredients and the freezer.
How did you do this week? Any leftovers that need using up?
If you need inspiration drop me a line, or alternatively share your No Waste Tastes Great ideas in the comments and help others to make the most of their groceries!

Hi Jo
I was really inspired by your no waster Fridays and I was going to get into the routine myself but then we got the green light for our overseas move. So now I’m embarking on a minimal pantry/fridge freezer waste, clearout (for want of any better term). The aim is to use up everything edible in the kitchen while buying very little to add. This means I have to think carefully about what can go with what and what needs using up first. I was gutted yesterday to have to throw out a whole bunch of asparagus, so will be more diligent in future.

Good Work Deb! My suggestion would be to continue with the clearing of the cupboards (even if you eat some strange combinations) and as you say add as little as possible. I cannot stress enough how meal planning can save you money, time and space. The more you use food up the more devastating it is when you have to throw it away and the harder you try next time…

Congratulations on being in the black with the grocery budget! And I love that you’ve named your crock. Against all minimal-izing odds, you’re making me really consider getting my own Brenda…Only you could do this, Jo! (You and your yummy menus!)
