It’s Friday, which in the Wright household is the day we take part in Food Waste Friday over at The Frugal Girl.
However I have been a bit quick of the mark this week… I actually did my fridge/perishables inventory last night. This was mainly due to the fact that today (Friday) I had allocated as my ‘batch errand’ day – post to follow later on this.
So what did I find untouched and potentially wasted?
- Half a Pyrex dish of Parsnip,Apple and Celery Soup
- 1 x Lime
- 1 x Courgette
- 6 x Celery Sticks
- A bunch of Spring Onions
- 10 x Pork Sausages
- Broccoli
The main concern is of course the Sausages – I collected them from the butcher on Tuesday in anticipation of making Toad in the Hole on Thursday – but it didn’t happen!
No takeaway tonight for the Hubby and I, instead the whole family will be tucking into Toad in the Hole with Broccoli… Still yummy and being as I ate a doughnut this morning probably for the best.
Thinking cap placed firmly on head, I set about constructing a meal to use up the Courgette, Celery and Spring Onions. Eureka! A Gratin – well my version of it anyway not sure it would be textbook correct, but no matter. Later today I will put together a Gratin which I will freeze and we will enjoy on Meat-Free Monday.
Once again I had a Lime sitting pitifully in the fridge – I really must stop buying them! Deja vu kicked in as I sliced and froze the lime and placed it beside last weeks – oops! They will come in at Christmas for the Gin and Tonics.
What’s left? The soup! I can’t salvage it, I had left it there hoping that my memory of the taste would fade during the week and I would have it for lunch. My memory didn’t fade and I just couldn’t face it again. It didn’t really work (made up from some of last weeks leftovers) and won’t be repeated…
My contribution to Food Waste Friday is:
Half a Pyrex dish of Parsnip,Apple and Celery Soup
Not bad even if I do say so myself
How’d you do this week? If you’d like some inspiration as to what dishes you can produce with your potential food waste then please do drop me a line – I’d be very happy to help with suggestions for a ‘No Waste Tastes Great’ dish
Have a lovely day y’all 🙂
