On Wednesday I asked for help.
If you don’t know what I’m talking about click here.
And help I got – thank you.
I didn’t reply to each comment. It wasn’t a post for that – I just wanted to hear what you thought. All of it will be taken on-board. In fact I will take a few days to properly digest the feedback and decide what improvements need to be made. I really appreciate everyone’s honesty.
As there is no time like the present to start implementing some improvements I thought today would be a good day to run through my Friday No Waste Tastes Great routine. To go back to my Food Waste Friday roots.
(The photo is kinda dark – I had to do my routine last night as we hit the road early)
So I:
1. Emptied the contents of my fridge onto the counter tops
2. Cleaned the inside of my fridge
3. Identified any actual food waste
4. Devised a plan to save any potential food waste
5. Put everything edible back inside the fridge
That’s what I do every Friday. It keeps me on track and reduces food waste at Chez Wright.
This Friday is a little different as we are away for the weekend. It’s my Son’s birthday today, and my birthday. The fridge is still full of all the items we are taking with us.
What we won’t be taking with us is this slice of leftover cake.
We had a little tea-party Wednesday night and someone (me) forgot to put the fresh cream cake back in the fridge. The Hubby (as you can see) is a little disappointed. I think he’d had his eye on it.
Fortunately I can make amends with this cake.
No they aren’t hedgehogs. Answers on a postcard as to what they actually are!
And over to you. Please do link up in the comments below!
How’s your fridge looking this Friday? Any food waste to confess, or great saves to share?
Those of you who participate in Food Waste Friday can now grab a fancy-schmancy button to perk up your posts. If you copy and paste the following code into your Food Waste Friday post, this little graphic will appear.”
If you blog on WordPress, just make sure you’re in html mode when you copy and paste the code, or it won’t work
Thank you as always to Kristen the original inspiration and founder of Food Waste Friday.

I lost an orange and some gravy. I tried hard not to buy much food this week and use up what we had. It seems like we had barely anything in there but yet it was still plenty to actually eat from all week. I want to buy smarter. I never really comment on blogs but I am inspired to stop my food waste. Have you ever seen the documentation “Dive! “

Are they hamsters? 🙂 Whatever they are, that cake is so excellent – lucky boy!
I like your simple, routine Food Waste Friday posts like this one. You may think they are repetitious, but they are good for keeping me on track. Having the steps laid out clearly helps me. I had quite a bit of waste this week as my father has been in the hospital and as he has severe mobility problems I’ve been spending a lot of time with him to help him be as comfortable as possible. I hope to get back on track soon.

My guess is guinea pigs; also, my eldest son is Daniel though he is probably nearer your age than your son’s! Happy birthday, Jo. I just read your post from Wednesday as have been taking a bit of a pc/facebook break. Getting back to your roots w no waste tastes great is a good idea & something I’ve always found useful. Have gotten some good soup & curry ideas from you that my family has enjoyed. So many commented on the difference in the tone of your writing, but you’ve had a rough year. We can’t be little mary sunshine all the time, and your regular readers seem to be a warm & friendly group who sympathize with you when you’re down & will keep reading. I’ve always enjoyed your writing style and am here reading, if not always commenting. Sending all the best for the coming year.

I too really enjoy your blog, Jo. I started reading about 3 years ago, just after my first baby was born. Your blog feels simple and cozy, which I love. I get the impression you would be very pleasant to chat with over tea. ?☕️I have also, like previous commenter, noticed a bit of a different tone this year, but as she said, you’ve had a rough time lately. Your readers know this. :). You and Kristen (TFG) keep me motivated to reduce my food waste, although I admit you’re both light years ahead of me and I can only hope to be as good as you at making food saves someday. :). Your fridge is a great inspiration.
The little critters on the cake… Are they beavers?
