A slightly different angle this Friday.
Rather than confessing my food waste as I do usually I’m opening up the blog for you to talk about whether you feel #FoodWasteFriday is helping you to make progress and reduce your food waste.
It’s all about progression and not perfection for me at the moment.
I did lose 2 satsumas this week and a lemon, they went mouldy. No photo. Mouldy photos are rather grim.
There’s no Friday fridge photo either. This isn’t about me. It’s about you.
I’d love to hear whether having a day each week that makes you think about what food you have wasted is helping you to make progress to reduce the food you do waste.
Is it working? Are we making progress?
As always many thanks to Kristen The Frugal Girl – the original inspiration behind Food Waste Friday!

Since discovering Food Waste Friday last year, I – and more recently my husband and teens as well – have made great strides in reducing our food waste simply by being much more aware of it and holding myself accountable by blogging about it. However, this past week was a surprisingly bad week for us in the food waste department and I’m at a loss to rationalize it. It was plainly a lack of diligence on my part. So I’m wowing to be much better this coming week (although I’ll be away for 3 days so who knows what will happen when I’m gone?!). My Food Waste Friday post is at http://imperfectlyfrugally.blogspot.com/2015/05/food-waste-friday-5115.html
Thanks for opening your blog to us and continuing to blog about this issue. You and Kristin from The Frugal Girl have been a great inspiration this past year!

Hi Jo!!
If i think about how much waste we had a couple of years ago on a weekly basis i cringe. We are by no means perfect now but a lot less goes in the bin (or compost heap) This week a 1/2 tub of beetroot salad (and its mould) was the only waste this week, However i have been trying to tackle plastic waste and we were doing really well but since we have come back from Florida the plastic waste has gone through the roof. Time to regroup and focus i reckon! I Progression?! You Bet!
Love the new layout btw ๐

Hi Jo,
Yes, #foodwastefriday has helped my awareness of food waste so much! I very rarely have salad waste anymore (though there may be some in my fridge right now due to changes in dinner plans this week…oops!) and only the occasional citrus fruit that goes mouldy underneath without me noticing or capsicums that go off inside when you can’t tell on the outside! Frustrating those ๐ Compared to when I first started, my food waste is minimal. And that wouldn’t be the case if it weren’t for #foodwastefriday and #nowastetastesgreat!

This is the first time reading your blog on food waste. Such a great idea. I had to start really being frugal 2 years ago when our disabled son moved back in with us and we had to use all our savings for my husband’s emergency surgeries( a lot not covered by Medicare) at the same time. Times were really hard but with God leading the way He showed me tricks I had never thought of. Now we have very little food waste and we are eating a wider range of food so it’s not so bad not being able to go out to eat every once in a while. The important thing I have found out is to have total faith in the Lord. Don’t even think of doubting His purpose because He knows better. Enjoy what you have. I love your blog and look forward to it each time.

Ever since discovering your blog a few months ago, my husband and I have been significantly cutting back on waste. We’re still not completely there, but the fact that I am more conscious about only buying what can be used and finding ways to use all the scraps, leavings, etc. I’ve seen our grocery bill cut AND really celebrate when I’m not even putting as much in the compost because I’ve used it creatively. Love following your journey and other fans on here as well. Mine started as a 100 day project inspiration but I’ve found that although I may not POST everyday, we’re following the “rules” we set out and are (gasp) finding a way to be more self-sustaining. Can’t wait for our garden to start producing more as I think we’ll see a big impact there too!
