A Decluttering Giveaway

Monday is ‘Purpose & Place’ day at Chez Wright.

It is getting easier to establish whether an item still has a use and where it should be kept. But I’m still decluttering…I’m wondering if I’ll ever stop?

It’s also getting easier to decide what to do with decluttered items. Unless I know someone really wants something I am getting rid of, I would never re-home. Reducing ones own clutter to clutter someone else up isn’t admirable.

The Kids clothes get passed on to a couple of friends with children younger than my own. The other items get boxed up and stored for the next car-boot sale and I also get busy on eBay. This Spring I set myself a £600 target for no longer required items, and I’m about two-thirds of the way there.

So, I am still decluttering, but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

In fact I’m now down to the bare bones of my own stuff. See my wardrobe below containing my everyday wear.

and my sentimental hoard… but that’s a whole other post…I do have a plan…finally…

Whilst blitzing the house searching for items to go. I found these…

I own just a handful of books and DVD’s now.

Would you like one?

The reason I still have these items is that they all mean something to me.

Fight Club is one of my favourite films of all time. I’ve always loved it, even before I decided consciously to simplify and minimize my life.

“The things you own end up owning you.” Tyler Durden.

I think Tyler would approve of my decision to declutter him.

Gretchen’s book is one of the first I read after realising that I wanted to make some changes to my life, and our family life. It was one of those books that I read at the right time for me.

“The days are long, but the years are short.” Gretchen Rubin.

So very true Getchen.

And last but not least, my favourite stand-up comedian. John Bishop.

I love stand-up comedy and was fortunate enough to see John live on tour just as he became well-known in the UK. This DVD is from that tour. He’s gone on to conquer the world since. But I’ll always remember the John Bishop I saw in the small theatre and how my cheekbones ached for 3 days straight after from laughing so much.

After much consideration (and wasting time on You Tube) I’ve selected this clip of John to share because a) the language is quite mild  b) it isn’t controversial material and c) it’s about fridges!!

(The DVD does contain strong language)

As I said, I don’t want to clutter anyone else up unintentionally, but should you wish to receive one of these items just pop a comment in below stating which item you’d like. I’ll draw one winner on Thursday and announce it on Friday as part of No Waste Tastes Great.

The giveaway is open to everyone regardless of location.

Don’t forget I now update most days on Facebook - Why not head on over and join the conversation?

I’m not entering but had to comment because I was looking at the top half of your closet photo and thinking “Wow, that looks great!”… then I scrolled down. ;-)

Hi Joanna – yes we do. I registered way back but never used it. What I tend to do is donate any other unwanted items direct to a charity shop. I did this a lot last year, when there was a lot of stuff to get through, but this year I’m focusing more on selling items if I can. It certainly something I’ll be looking at again!

Count me in for the book!! John Bishop…. Now there is a tale, i used to listen to him on a local radio station pre fame, i thought he was hilarious but i thought no-one outside Liverpool would understand the humour, apparently i was wrong!! It;s really hard to get tickets for his gigs nowadays he’s that popular!!

I am very pared down in most things in my life, my wardrobe is my weakness, i adore clothes and variety, well nobody’s perfect!!!! Well done on your wardrobe!!

I think he translates across the UK really well…and his delivery and accent make it even more watchable. I saw him about 3 years ago I reckon, but now he’s playing large venues. My friend went to Birmingham the other evening and said he was fantastic.
      Popped you in draw Sharron…
As for wardrobe that’s not my weakness, as you can see I have a harder time decluttering the paper!

That’s good to hear! i’ve heard so many negatives about the scouse accent (i have a very broad accent) and think he’s a really good representation of scousers!!

So is all that paper sentimental Jo?
