Simply Being Mum’s Friday Fridge
Quite full by my standards, but as always there’s a plan!
I would like to buy school meals. Really I would. And for almost the duration of an academic year I did, for my Daughter.
The idea that I am supporting the local school and my child is receiving a hot, nutritious balanced meal sounds perfect to me.
However there’s always been a niggling doubt that if I sat down and costed it all out, that the maths wouldn’t add up. And in reality, the meal wasn’t as nutritious as I would have liked. That isn’t to say one wasn’t offered, all the main component parts were available. What my Daughter chose to put on her tray was another matter.
The ‘ole brain started a whirring. I love a price comparison, so I decided to calculate how much a packed lunch costs, the way we do it at Chez Wright.
I am definitely one for building simple family traditions. One that we’ve been trying out at Chez Wright is cinema night.
Saturday night is now Pizza and Popcorn in front of the box (in the wind down to bedtime). Yeah I know TV – shame on me
! But those who follow my blog regularly know that I’m not convinced that TV Ruined Your Life.
One for building traditions, but also one for making from scratch where I can. Pizza at Chez Wright doesn’t get delivered in a box (well hardly ever!), but gets made with a little help from the Kids themselves. I’m keen for the Kids to get ‘hands on’ in the kitchen, and this is such an easy and fun recipe. Kids love to see the dough after it has risen!
(I won’t go into all the costings here between home-made, shop bought or delivered – check this post for that information).
I’m calling this recipe Healthy Home-Made Pizza, because I was informed by my 7-year-old the other day that ‘pizza is unhealthy’. My reply was ‘not the way Mommy makes it!’.
Very often on a Saturday the Kid’s and I do an activity and I’ve thought previously about posting about it here.
Today’s activity looked so yummy I thought I’d share. It’s also so very simple, but that’s the point. It’s something the Kid’s can do themselves, with a little supervision and assistance. I’m keen for my Kid’s to be ‘hands on’ in the kitchen, so simple techniques and recipes very often get tried out at Chez Wright.

Looking pretty sparse eh?
After much delay, then frustration at not being able to upload photos, I can finally post my simple birthday cake recipe as promised. Brace yourself this is a long post, but I’ve included detail that I have gathered from a lot of experience, and countless mistakes.
(There should have been more photo’s, but Google is having a little fun with me at the moment, and is selecting what it will and won’t upload to the blog)
As someone who no longer buys birthday cakes but makes them, I can guarantee that this recipe will work. I’ve used it time and time again.
Follow these steps to make your own.
Just a quick update Guys, I could upload photo’s and now can’t again. The Simple Birthday Cake Recipe was written yesterday (and should have been posted) but it needs photos.
I’m trying to establish what the problem is, I believe it’s Google Chrome rather than WordPress that’s not playing ball – the server won’t send the data to the blog.
Sorry!
Not a happy bunny once more!

Notice anything different?
No photograph.
I still can’t upload photo’s onto the blog. I thought this was a temporary thing on Monday. But it appears not as I returned to post today.
So, over on Facebook there’s a photo of my Friday Fridge, and also one of where I’ve been hiding these last few days.
My priority is to get the blog up to speed once more, this I’ll be working on over the weekend. I’ve tried a few things this evening, but cannot get photo’s to upload. I’ll be trying a different PC tomorrow, and hope to get the simple Birthday cake recipe post up ASAP.
Regardless, it’s still Food Waste Friday over at The Frugal Girl so;
How’s your Fridge looking this Friday? Anything to declare? Or is it nice and bare? Please share…
I’m starting to wonder if I have productivity issues?
There was a post promised over the weekend on how to make and ice a simple Birthday cake.
All the photography was done Friday, then Saturday was spent getting ready for Leah’s Birthday (and tea-party) and Easter Egg hunt.
I made party bags (there should be a photo here)
And finished Leah’s Birthday cake (there should also be a photo here)
Yesterday was a busy day, family came to visit and then we had friends to play (and a tea-party).
The plan was to post the instructions for a Birthday cake recipe last night, but I fell asleep on the sofa.
I won’t have access to the internet until Friday evening, I’ll explain then.
For some reason I can’t upload photo’s to my blog today. I’ll see if I can on Facebook.
I’ll be back Friday evening with a later than usual No Waste Tastes Great.
Happy Belated Easter Everyone!
