Simple Christmas Traditions / Chutney, Tree Decorations, Jammies & Advent Calendars

Preparations are in full swing in the countdown to Christmas.

At Chez Wright we keep it simple. Simple doesn’t necessarily mean quick or convenient, rather a home-made Christmas takes time. Hence we are doing a little bit each week and weekend.

So what did we get up to last weekend?

Simple Christmas Traditions / Operation Christmas Child, Puds and Letters to Santa

Christmas is all about time with the family. We like to keep it simple.

One way I’ve chosen to do this is by developing simple traditions. Kids love knowing what to expect, it adds to the experience and excitement for them. We are currently building up to the big day as the weekend after Remembrance Sunday now signifies the start of these traditions.

Each week I will post on our countdown to Christmas. First born is now at an age where she can actively get involved not just in the ‘doing’ but in the decision-making. This seems the perfect year to start documenting it all.

A home-made Christmas doesn’t happen overnight. A consumerist Christmas literally can. Buying stuff isn’t what Christmas is about for us, but at the same time Christmas is a shared holiday, and other people’s expectations need to be taken into account. Can A Family Kitchen Be Minimal?

When my good friend Rayna (otherwise known as The Suburban Minimalist) kindly asked me to Guest Post on a ‘Minimal Kitchen’ it set me a little bit of a challenge.

I am indeed an aspiring minimalist and Mum on the road to a ‘family life simply done’ but the one area of my home you couldn’t really describe as minimalistic is my kitchen. I have in excess of 35 spices, and a cupboard almost entirely dedicated to cake-making and decorating paraphernalia. It is the room in which I spend most of my time and energy, and organised it is (very) but minimal it is not.

I’ve decided to open the floor up with a little bit of a ‘show and tell’ post. I’m suspecting that my kitchen couldn’t pass as minimal, but I hope you will agree it’s functional and organised with a little bit of fun thrown in.

How I Meal Plan On A Reduced Grocery Budget

Since reducing our grocery spend by 50% meal planning has become even more critical.

Also important is keeping an eye on stocks in the cupboard and freezer. Not only am I spending less (considerably less) on food, our food waste is almost non-existent.

I thought I’d share how I did it this week.
